  1. You mean there's still time then... thanks Dave! So what's the secret material now? And lemme guess, does it involve "sponges".. http://forum.nlft.org/index.php?showtopic=...findpost&p=4462 What's next.. Iron Flyfisher?
  2. Yay... pictures! Nice job Paul! If we can get the originals from you.. Scratch and I would like to include these in the NLFTF club video we're making.
  3. Speaking of which, would you be up for a little side video project together to round up all the clubs tapes and video activities (Iron Fly 2004, Wally Lutz Intermediate Tying Course, Phil & Brian, FNB) and such to help produce say a short 10-15 minute DVD loop that can be shown at the upcoming shows? We can get together when you're feeling better and hash it out. Your video slide show presentations are famous, and I think we could splice together a nice video in it's own right with a lot pf pics from club functions as well to accompany the end of the reel. We could even throw in some of the uh.. "fishing".. portions from some of our own videos... just the "fishing" parts though mind you eh.

  5. Iron Fly: Michael Dell Vs. Challengers: Dale Johnston Lance Taylor Judges: To be announced at the event start, so they can't be bought off! Patterns: Dry fly, Wet fly and Nymph Hook: Dry #12, Wet #8, Nymph #10 Material: Surprise! Format: The competitors will use their own materials and equipment to construct at least three flys in a one-hour time frame. A special ”surprise” material will be given out at the start of tying that the participants will have to incorporate it into each fly. The flys will be judged on: Appearance, Tying Techniques, Originality, Best Use of Mystery Material and Potential Catching Ability The winner earns the coveted title of “Iron Fly Tyer” until the next competition. Comments: The smash success of last year returns with Michael Dell defending his title against two challengers: Lance Taylor (aka Ranger Bob also aka Spongebob Wetpants) and Dale Johnston (a founding NLFT member who has rejoined the motley crew). Each will test their tying skill against Master Dell in a trio of patterns. Come prepared to be amazed (and to heckle).
  6. I got tools and equipment for at least three more stations Mike. If we all bring our own vices we'll be fine. But yeah, the club should have an even dozen of these in inventory. What patterns you got planned?
  7. Speaking of work.. how's "The Baby Itch Project" coming along. There were rumours floating around in Calgary about yah Scratch. I squashed.. most of them.
  8. A link for our website. Should we plan an event for this too - gets posted on their wesbite also, and gives us some National exposure. http://www.nationalfishingweek.com/ Definitely should be hyping this up at the next Edmonton fishing shows. PDF Book: http://www.catchfishing.com/home_en/downlo...tch_Fishing.pdf See if we can get some pre-printed copies of this from someplace, and also encourage: Alberta's Licence Free Weekend July 10th – 11th, 2004 For more information call 780-944-0313
  9. Mia inesattezza! Mia sfortunato! http://www.wordreference.com/
  10. Congrats! Looks just like her Daddy Yup, a keeper indeed. RB
  11. Howdy Ian, Next meeting is a discussion on wader repair as per the latest newsletter, and demo of some fantastic new UV Loon Products. http://nlft.org/brokenthreads.php I don't think there will be much in the way of a formal tying demonstration, other then perhaps what members are bringing along to tie themselves. As well a group of us are working on the Salmon Fly Stamp project. Your welcome to sit in on that with us, or again, bring along what you desire to tie for you flybox.. the gopher says spring is only 6 weeks away.. so it's time to tie tie tie. http://forum.nlft.org/index.php?showforum=29 I also suspect there will also be a recap of the events of the latest Flyfishing Show in Calgary, and so if you didn't attend that you'll get a report on that. http://forum.nlft.org/index.php?showtopic=773&hl= So, come on down for the atmosphere, I think you'll see how things flow.. and remember when you do join you also get a 10% discount at local shops. Should be more then all the incentive you need to join up. Be sure to introduce yourself! Regards, Ranger Bob PS - The "Magic Tool Swap" is still open, sign up if you own one of those tools and you can bring stuff to tie for that one. If you don't have the tool.. join up.. buy the tool at 10% off. http://forum.nlft.org/index.php?showtopic=751
  12. The show was pretty awesome, and the 14 members of NLFTF are ALL to be commended for the pilgrimage down South to help out at the show. Dave and I travelled down together, and counted 37 cars in the ditch on the way... four of them being semi-trailers. Anyways, I heard a lot of VERY POSITIVE feedback from a great many vendors about our pressense at the show. Nuff said for now.
  13. Don't forget to hype the new stamp series.. which-- co-incindentally comes out on opening day. http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/collecti...ishing_souv.jpg I'll bring some down with me. As well, will bring my Billy Bass and Travis trout to animate the kids booth. Should get real annoying... real quick.
  14. Wally pointed this out to me, a good program to listen to. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Program Item Details TITLE: Dr.Lee Foote, Associate Professor, Renewable Resources, University of Alberta and Program Leader, ACA Grants in Biodiversity Program SUBJECT: #150 ACA Grants in Biodiversity Program SYNOPSIS: Every time you buy a hunting or fishing Licence in Alberta, a significant portion of that Money goes to the Alberta Conservation Association. And the ACA in turns uses the money to fund research on conservation Issues. The ACA Grants in Biodiversity fund supports students who are studying plants and wildlife as part of their masters and PhD programs. Their findings on elk, wolves, birds, and grasslands, just to name just a few, are changing the way we manage for conservation values in this province. materials?

Bridger, Normally, check out the current months newsletter (on the website @ http://nlft.org/) for the pattern(s) being tied at any upcoming meeting, along with a materials list. However, seems Scratch broke the link on Friday.. he's off to San Fran for a week. Pacres can you fix the link? http://nlft.org/brokenthreads.php Cheers! RB
  16. Unfortunately, me and Bob are painfully aware of portions of it. A PT boat in January... shudder... shrivel. Have fun!
  17. I'm thinking I need to get my own stomach pumped after each time I watch the "Blonde" show too.. ditto for the Dimebag fisherman. So not a bad idea to have one on hand really. Yeah, I'd rather watch BASSmasters Classic re-runs.
  18. What.. you don't carry a bobbin threader with you? Hey Mike, didn't you guys used to do this down at Molson House, and chug a beer in between wraps?. Sounds like I missed out on a good time... so when's the next Iron Fly Tyer 2005 Dave? Scratch and I are eager to take on Mike.. and I need vindication for that size 28 Wally Wing that Scratch tied. Perhaps I can beat him sober then. Speaking of TUC, just renewed my membership. See you Monday night... and I often wonder why more NLFT members aren't TUC members too? Perhaps they are, but they don't show up for the meetings? Strange indeed. http://www.freenet.edmonton.ab.ca/trout/index.html
  19. Lesse what a Silver Rat evolves into now...
  20. One more day to donate and have the government match funds. And, I submit for your consideration these photos: http://homepage.mac.com/demark/tsunami/
  21. Double the power of your donation! When you give to the Canadian Red Cross Asia Earthquake & Tsunami Relief fund before Jan. 11, 2005 the Government of Canada will generously match your gift, and has allowed any donation made to the fund, up to and including Jan 11, to be claimed on your 2004 Income Tax Return! I'm certain everyone here is quite aware of the horrible disaster that has recently occurred in Southern Asia, and seen many of the incredible images, and heard about many of the tragedies and miracles that have occured over the past 10 days. Yes, there are many worthy causes throughout the world today, fishing related ones, and other more local ones. Ergo, I challenge each NLFT member to think about this and donate to one of your favorite causes prior to January 11th. You do not have to disclose how much you have donated, or that you have donated. I just challenge EACH ONE OF YOU to pause and think about it for awhile before you decide what a particular organization has either done for you, or what your donation might mean to others when used by that organization. For those who would like to make a phone donation to the organizations listed in the message, the toll-free numbers are listed below. Unicef: 1-877-955-3111 @ http://www.unicef.org Red Cross: 1-800-418-1111 @ http://redcross.ca Oxfam: 1-800-466-9326 @ http://www.oxfam.org World Vision: 1-800-268-5528 @ http://www.wvi.org CARE Canada: 1-800-267-5232 @ http://www.care.ca
  22. An older guy setup only 50 yds away from us in about 10 feet of water landed two nice ones, up to 4.5 lbs. He said he caught an 11 pounder the week before, and I have no reason to doubt him. I think in all there were only about 4 fish caught that day by other anglers. They are there, but you really got work for them.
  23. Sat on the ice all day with Scratch - balmy +2C out here.. no need to break out the heaters. I'll let him post the adventures we had later. Great fun, and a nice re-introduction to the "enjoyable" sport of hardwater fly-fishing. See my sig.. nobody was killed.
