I got a call from Dave Johnson of the Fishin Hole today. He was just confirming that our booth and the Kids tying will be togather :clap: . The interesting thing was after that he mention he had been surfing our web page and notice that there were a few(lots) of derogator(spelling) comments on the Edmonton fly shops :(:( as a whole. We discuss it a bit and Dave said that they would look at any good advise on what is need to improve the flyfishing and tying section of the store. I told him that maybe some of use could get togather and brain storm and submit a suggestion list to him. He was more than willing to look at it objectively.

Just thought it was interesting.

Looks like a great opportunity for both parties Dennis, and sounds like they're giving us a huge chunk of real estate too boot. Awesome! That place should be hopping (just like the Easter Bunny).. so I will try to lend a hand where I can on Thursday and Friday nights with tying.

Indeed, when I was last at the Fishin Hole on 97st (last week Monday) I was speaking with Chris the store manger about items they should have in stock as basics that I could not find on the shelf. Like Turkey Feathers. He took my recommendations whole heartedly too and I saw him even write stuff down on the Super Fly order form right then and there. He's a real asset to their stores.. love dealing with him ever since I bought my Pontoon boat their... my Fish Finder.. my wading boots... my vice... my GPS mounts... my Hooters Hotpot... and well I think you get the idea. Customer service pays off.

Again, I found they weren't none hesitant at all to order in anything I required including 6 packs of Rainbow Sow Scud which I gots to go pick up Friday. All you gotta do is ask. I know Lorne and The Fishin Centre are just as accomodating as well too.

If Dave or Lorne is reading this now.. they can know both that I'll continue to never buy my tying stuff at Wholesale.. even with their new Cabella's wanna be store front (which is now in an even more awkward location to get to). Not only because of the discount not offered to us there, but quote simply I find that their selection is about the worst in the city from the last time I was in there. In fact non existant as it was stilll all in boxes from relocation.

Which reminds me, I think we should have better 'ad placement' for ALL the shops that DO sponsor us as well on the frontpage of the website too. Just my $0.02 worth.

It was very unfortunate that awkward comments were made about the Fishin Hole. I can tell you from my point of view that I deal with the West Ed Mall store and I have found that their fly tying sections has improved over the last month or so and I can tell you that Randy and Riva are very accomdating and do bring in stuff that is asked for - they listen and are doing their best. I do enjoy shopping there.

While it is awkward and uncomfortable for the retailers to hear about problems here at the Northern Lights forum - it's perhaps better - in that they now have a pulse for how tiers and fishers feel.

We've all had experiences at local retailers - good and bad, but the important thing to remember is that we are consumers. We spend our money wisely - and the the retailers have a place to see what's really going on.

I appreciate the sensitive nature of this board, from a retailers perspective - however, it's also a great place for them to ask questions, find out what's limiting them, and provide feedback to us regarding changes - or reasons behind existing 'problems'.

Cheers to Dave for contacting Dennis - and cheers to Dennis for helping him understand the issue.

In talking with Dennis on the phone yesterday.. he indicated that Dave Johnson read in only that there was overall tone of lacking key / new products in the fly shop scene in Edmonton. I don't think anything negative has been directly said.. just observations posted.. and regarded. I think Dennis can elaborate futher. I agree with Scratch on his comments too.. why we have a club.. to exchange information.. good... bad.. and the ugly.

Like, my observation (report) today of driving in to the Fishin Hole today to pickup my Waspi Rainbow dubbing only to find out it had not been ordered in over two weeks. Written down on an order form.. but not ordered yet. I guess that's one less pattern I can get into Neil Jennings book next week.

But then understandable.. Chris's (store manager) wife just has a baby 4 and 1/2 weeks early.. and yeah.. he was looking pretty bushed. Congrats Chris! Now.. if you can have that kind of a rapport with individuals at your fly shop.. you know why you'll keep going back. Nuff said!

PS - They had two copies of Neils book in stock at $29.95 which is less that I paid in Calgary. See.. exchange of information. ;)
