Howdy,

Just a quick note to remind everyone that the WCFFE is happening in Calgary in three weeks: Feb 04-06.

Are there enough volunteers to cover off the event for us? Is there a logistics sheet? Any information on this event? Does the club have it's own tradeshow booth? Are we handing out any prizes? Any collateral? What is our involvement level (i.e., are we there to tie flies, or is this an event to promote the club and increase membership?)? Who's the prime? Who's the contact in Calgary?

I've lined up some business in Calgary on the 4th, so I'm available for an evening shift. I would also like to work the show on Saturday morning.

Robin

PS - I was just on the website and noticed that the House of Hardy will be exhibiting; I hope the booth bunny is the lady from their current ad campaign! :P Have you seen the Gem, Angel, or Cascapedia reels ... drool, slurp, drool. rmm

I'll help out as much as I can. I'll be tying at the superfly booth for part of it. Northern lights have a 10' x 20' booth to use. The organisers were extremely impressed at the involvement of the club members at the show in Edmonton last year, so that's why we were asked instead of the local Calgary club. All I hear are good things about the clubs involvement.:clap:

RB,

Perhaps a side goal (objective) could be to feel out folks down there about interest in possibly starting up an associated "Southern Lights Chapter"?

Good idea. Maybe we could have a sign up sheet for interested people (name, email, phone) and follow up with a mass mailer a few weeks after the event.

Another idea: could we start an online logistics sheet for this show, so we don't have 6 people on Friday night and 20 on Saturday (i.e., who, from when to when, et cetera)? For example:

1. Robin (SilverHilton) Friday 6-9, Saturday 9-12 - Learn to tie

One more thing - then I'll stop - does the club have shirts and/or hats? From my experience at tradeshows (>15/year) it projects a consistent image and you are easily discernable as someone that can provide information if you are wearing some company gear. I've seen a few around the club from previous years. Just a thought.

Robin:

Brain Bleakley is organizing the outing to Calgary,

Let him know when you want to go.

So Brian can schedule who is on when,

So far we have a booth and the idea is to primarily do kid instruction.

Yes we have shirts, hats and vests and I think some crests.

We have a small amout of stock in one of the cabinets.

Again, speak to Brian Bleakley.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just received a note from Hook and Hackle...

Hi Greg:

I was looking through your web site (Northern Lights Fly Tyers) and you were the only contact I could see.

I am the web editor for the Calgary Hook & Hackle Club and was wondering if your club would be interested in posting a link to our club's site? We have a link to your site (I just updated it).

I also understand some of your members are coming down to the Expo. Maybe members from both clubs can introduce themselves to each other and say hello.

Hope to see you at the Expo.

RB,

I work trade shows all the time for TELUS. There is usually a registration booth at the entrance for 'Booth Bunnies'. Just walk up, give them your name and that you're with NLFT, and they should have a name tag for you. Brian was going to send a list of names down to the organizing committee; so, if you've spoken with Brian, you should have no problems at the door. If you do, give me a call on cell (PM) and I'll help you out.

Robin

PS - Did you get your fly stamps today? I'm going at lunch after I meet with a client. rmm.

The show was pretty awesome, and the 14 members of NLFTF are ALL to be commended for the pilgrimage down South to help out at the show. Dave and I travelled down together, and counted 37 cars in the ditch on the way... four of them being semi-trailers. :o

Anyways, I heard a lot of VERY POSITIVE feedback from a great many vendors about our pressense at the show. Nuff said for now.

Just got back from Calgary and the FF Expo. Things went really well I thought, especially on Saturday when there was lots of action. The NLFT booth was really hopping at times, with lots of kids having a great time tying their own wooly buggers. The following pics show some of the action on Saturday. Terry

This weekend was fun. Lots of friendly people.

Everyone who came into the booth and tied up a fly, left very happy and proud.

It was a thrill to be a part of this show. The smiles and excitement from novice to experienced tyers told everything.

Can't wait until the shows in Edmonton start.

Picture posting still not working for me...AAAAAAArghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

It was a great show. I'd like to thanks all of the members who made it down to the show to volenteer their time, and brave the poor roads in some cases.

I'm proud to be a part of the NLFT club, and to see the effect that our participation has on the younger anglers that attend these events. The organizers are also very impressed with the amount of involvment the club had in the event. It shows why our club is capable of attracting younger members.

Thanks everyone.

My three grand nephews were thrilled to have tied a fly.

In fact I think one of them tied three.

The best was 3 year old Jaxon being given patient

and expert instruction by Brian Bleackley.

Thanks guys.

Now if we could have gotten the Toad and Turtle band to tone it down a bit

it might even have gotten a bit drunk out

Or did the scotch dinkers at the super 8 manage it themselves. ;)

A special Thank You for all of those individuals who assisted at the Western Fly Fishing Show in Calgary. The response to Northern Lights Fly Tyers & Fishers was very positive and almost unbelievable from primarily Calgarians. Those who were there represented Northern Lights very well. Once again Thanks. Brian :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

No pictures - but I have the DVD. ;)

Speaking of which, would you be up for a little side video project together to round up all the clubs tapes and video activities (Iron Fly 2004, Wally Lutz Intermediate Tying Course, Phil & Brian, FNB) and such to help produce say a short 10-15 minute DVD loop that can be shown at the upcoming shows?

We can get together when you're feeling better and hash it out. Your video slide show presentations are famous, and I think we could splice together a nice video in it's own right with a lot pf pics from club functions as well to accompany the end of the reel.

We could even throw in some of the uh.. "fishing".. portions from some of our own videos... just the "fishing" parts though mind you eh.
