Paulf
Hey Dan and Rick. Is it still a go for tomorrow for the bow. I was planning on driving tomorrow, but my spare tire is still not in, not a good plan driving to Calgary with no spare. I talked with Aaron, he'll meet us at 7:00 to join us. Looks like the weather will be in our favour, except for maybe the freezing rain tonight. Still packing the gear tonight, just in case. Maybe even tie up a few of them thar san jaun worms. paulf
dipperdan
Hey guys. Fighting a bit of a cold, but am still thinking of coming out. Looks like +2 with a bit of a breeze from the NW. Rick have you anything to add from your trip to Calgary today? Looking for a good fish fight
RJL2
Hi Guys Weather in Calgary today was great. Did not get a chance to check out the Bow or any fly shops. Forecast for tomorrow is +4 C. Might be a bit of wind. I am a go for 7:00AM Saturday at the usual spot. Large San Juan Worm's are the fly of choice with BHPT as dropper. Let me know if there is any change in time. Paulf
Well, here is the scoop. The day started out pretty much like any other fishing trip with our usual stop at Humpty's for breakfast. The driving was slower than normal due to the winter road conditions, but we still made it. Stopped at fish tales in Calgary, "MAN WHAT A STORE". We looked around for awhile, spoke with the owners and then headed to the bow. The first fly in the water was Dan's hot pants, aka pink thing, didn't take him very long before he landed the first big brown. A whopping 28" of a beast. Caught just downstream of where we parked. Took just over 1/2 hour to land. Shore was treacherous due to ice along the shore. Rick had a similiar experience, only difference was, it was a rainbow that he landed, a nice size at 24". Caught on a san jaun worm size 4. Aaron also landed a nice size fish on a san jaun as well. It was at least 25"-26", give or take an inch.Yours truly landed a nice rainbow of around 20", caught this beauty on the famous bow river bugger size 6. When we started fishing, the snow was coming down pretty heavy, hardly could see the next guy besides you. About an hour later, the sun came out, warmed up considerably, then we couldn't keep the fish off. A great day of fishing on the bow. Now if you are still reading this far, the truth of the tale is, we were all skunked for fish, saw a few, had a couple of tugs on the line, then went home, but not before hitting timmy's first. I'm sure the others will verify the first story as well. Now isn't the first story better. Paul
vince
Paul Great story big guy. I've got to say you had my heart pumping there for a while and I started to get upset that I was not able to make the trip. Sounds like you guys had a good time though. Remember "the journey is half the fun". Maybe you should have fished that big uguly bugger - it's a meal and a half. See you all tomorrow night. Llama Leach
That first story is a better one, makes a fellows heart pump a little faster now did you really stop at the fishing tales? With the weather turning so warm it sure makes a fellow want to get out.
RJL2
It was exactly as Paul described in the post up to his fairy tale ending in the last paragraph. The snow was comiing down so fast and heavy others could not see the browns and rainbows or even your fishing partners who were only a couple of rod lengths away. Photographs are available and look just like the picture on old TV sets with rabbit ears for reception - a lot of snow. I had such a good time I am ready to go again this weekend. Anyone else good to go? Work forces me to go to Grande Prairie Wednesday and Thursday so I will miss the meeting. Have a great one! Rick
