"Next lake trip, I must take my camera and I must send photos of the lake and the fish to neilstuartsutherland@gmail.com for inclusion in "The Trout Lakes of Northern Alberta".

Here is an example, courtesy of John Marples and Dipper Dan.

I really appreciate the work that you put into this but to me there are too few trout lakes in Alberta to be publicizing them in this fashion. I know that most are catch-and-release but I don't think they need any additional publicity. I used to fish East Pit but I don't go any more because it has become too busy.

Can't people just look at the stocking lists and then go check out the lakes without all this prior information? Sorry to sound negative but I have had too many negative experiences in Alberta when fishing.

One of Northern Lights aims and objectives is to " promote the involvement of others in fly tying and fishing". Although Neil's publication might result in a few more people fishing a lake I like to visit, I think that publicizing information on where to go fishing, how to get there, some of the features of the lake and advice on flies to use etc. is an important part of that promotion process. The more folk we can get interested in fishing, especially in fly fishing and its related links to entomology, lake structure, fish biology and behaviour etc, the more I believe we will promote interest in and support for fisheries and freshwater conservation. As much as part of me would like to see fewer boats on the lake sometimes, I know that fewer anglers will result in fewer resources for stocking by both AEP and ACA and less incentive for Fisheries Management to create new trout fisheries and maintain existing ones.

Thanks. As I said, I didn't want to sound negative and I do appreciate the work that goes into this information. I know that East Pit isn't a secret lake by any means, but I have seen a major increase in use over the last several years with an increase in bad behaviour by many of the anglers.

I think East Pit is where dipperdan had someone drill a hole in his gas tank. Have heard a couple of other negative reports about it too. Sounds like a place to avoid. Have been trying to find out the status of West Pit but have not been able to get any definitive information fromTransAlta.
