RangerBob Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 (edited) Here are a few candid shots to give far off folks, and non-members a feel of our new (digs) meeting place and show the informal setting. I snapped these when Dave Robinson (our newsletter editor) tied up a Clouser Minnow pattern and gave us a slide show back on September 22nd meeting. Of course the turnouts have been somewhat larger since the snow has started to fall and we actually occupy two rooms at the Lions Centre (we're that big now). Hope to see you at a meeting soon! Dave, we should get more such photos for the newsletter and/or the website. Feel free to use these if you want, and I'll be posting some of Phil Rowly shortly. Oh yeah, and as promised Dave.. I scanned your fly pattern in (and will CyberFly it later). Tyer: Dave Robinson Pattern: Clouser Minnow Hook: Stainless Saltwater Hook # 2Thread: Clear 6/0Eyes: Dumbell EyesUnderbody: Pearl BraidLower Wing: White Polar BearFlash: Green Krystal FlashUpper Wing: Chartreuse Yak Hair Comments: the fly that accounted for most of the salmon on Dave’s trip. It’s also an effective bull trout and pike fly, once you learn how to cast it. Edited October 20, 2004 by RangerBob Quote
RangerBob Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 (edited) Bump... I knew the pattern was here someplace. So, it had to be Yak's fur eh... sorry.. I am fresh outta Yak fur. So... who's pimping Yak fur out there? Edited August 4, 2006 by RangerBob Quote
RangerBob Posted August 8, 2006 Author Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) I scored a package of Chartreuse "Saltwater" Yak hair today at Wholesale Sports ($6.29).... and well this trip only cost me $111 after buying "Yak Fur" of every color of the rainbow.. and a few of these shiny things.. and a few of those. Seesh... they already know me by name over there... for all the stuff I've bought for this trip so far. Yeah, when will I learn.... and... Yak hair is interesting stuff indeed. Not at all what I expected. Edited August 8, 2006 by RangerBob Quote

I got some a while ago but have'nt yet had a chance to use it. VinceHyup, the X-Stream hair was featured on our first Flyangler.ca DVD -- Darren's "The X1 (Pike / Trout) Fly" used it. I've not been able to source any yet myself in any of the local shops. I was pretty impressed with the Yak fur though... used all of it up yesterday just about. Cranked out 24 more Saltwater flies in a few hours with it. I'll bring my growing collection into the meeting tonight. TTFN, RB Edited August 9, 2006 by RangerBob Quote
vince Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 RangerBob I've not be able to find X-Stream either but I did manage to be the high bidder at the last auction where I picked up some orange and some black. Have not used it yet but I did see Darren use it and it looked very col. I'm looking forward to seeing your collection tonight. Vince Quote
agrombacher Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Hey Lanny and Vince, The Yak is nice. It has a translucent quality about it. Not quite polar bear like, but getting there. And it is of long length. Polar in longer lengths is a bear to get (pun intended, eh). X-stream hair is nice. I've got it in all the colors. Nice long lengths and pretty easy to tie with. Should be good big fly material. Cheers, Alan Quote
vince Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Alan Thanks for the info. Can you let me know where you picked up your supply of X-Stream....I'd like to tie some Pike flies this winter and I think X-Stream has potential. Vince Quote
RangerBob Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 (edited) Before Darren left he gave me some new product samples from the fine folks whom brought us 'Bird Fur' (as seen in Iron Fly 2006). Not sure what the name of this new material was, perhaps he can clarify it... suffice to say.. I used it all up.. it was really neat stuff to work with. When cut in strips like Rabbit fur.. a breeze to tye with. Wll show yah some tonight. Edited August 9, 2006 by RangerBob Quote
