Auction items are many and varied – there’s a Salmon Fly Plate tied by Tak Shimizu, this year’s winner of the most prestigious international fly tying award, there’s a mountain bike, a guided fishing trip, art work, fishing gear, items that would make great Christmas presents for young and old, books, #1 quality fly tying capes, mini-donut and s’mores makers, boxes of flies, men’s and women’s apparel, a bamboo fly rod………and the list goes on!
This event is the Chapter’s primary source of operational income and allows us the opportunity to hold weekly meetings from September to June. These meetings provide opportunity to talk fly fishing, learn fly tying, hear from biologists, government personnel and experts in many aspects of angling. They are also the time to plan the many conservation and education activities in which the club engages, to arrange fishing trips, borrow books and DVDs from the club's extensive collection, or simply to visit with other fly fishers.

Nov 8 – Business meeting and a chance to share information on fall fishing trips

Nov 15 - Kevin Gardiner, ACA’s regional manager for Central Alberta , and Marco Fontana, senior biologist, are visiting to talk about the ACA purchases on the Raven, the ongoing riparian work, aeration plans and other Red Deer area ACA projects. Kevin is also an avid brown trout angler and may be persuaded to share information on some of his favourite pools on the Raven and Stauffer. Members of the Edmonton Trout Club have also been invited to this meeting.

Nov 22 – Nick Sliwkanich is giving a presentation on sinking line angling techniques. Nick is an avid fly angler and has a passion for outdoor writing and photography. Some of his work can be found in the Alberta Fishing Guide and Western Sportsman.

Nov 29 – Dennis Southwick will be demonstrating some patterns using a new material called Kreelex. "More supple than Krystal Flash, and just a touch less flashy: Kreelex is a unique material. The flashy aspect seems almost dulled metal rather than polished metal. When you look at this stuff, it looks like it almost changes color with movement going from a dark, almost black, to it’s dyed color. How this works with the Kreelex fly is that when you let it drift (either dead or swinging) it doesn’t look like much, but give it a twitch and all that flash lights up! Much like a wounded baitfish struggling for life.”

Dec 6 - a short business meeting followed by a presentation by Jessica Reilly and Mike Blackburn on native trout recovery.

Jessica is an avid angler and senior biologist with the Government of Alberta. She has volunteered on a number of occasions with TUC including with the Northern Lights Fly Fishers chapter on the Arctic Grayling project. Jessica is currently responsible for the design and delivery of regional fisheries management programs. She is the provincial species lead for Bull Trout, developing a recovery plan for the species. Mike Blackburn is a Sr. Fisheries Biologist with Alberta Environment and Parks based in Edson.
