February 18 Surprise Fly

Sorry to be so late posting this. On February 18 I am going to demonstrate two flies that were developed by Evan Ritchie, a fly fisher/tyer from Red Deer. Evan has used these with great effectiveness on the Crowsnest River.

 

Annihilator

 

Hook: TMC 200R size 6-8, or long shank streamer hook

Thread: Brown 6/0

Tail: Elk Hair, short

Hackle: Brown, undersized, palmered

Body: Fuzzy Foam (orange for Salmonfly, brown for Golden Stone)

Wing: Elk Hair

Hackle: Brown or Grizzly

Thorax; same as body

 

 

Heart Attack

 

Hook: dry fly, size 10-18

Thread: brown or tan, 8/0

Body: mixed orange and brown seal fur, dubbed

Underwing: Krystal flash

Wing: Tan macramé yarn

Hackle: brown and grizzly mixed, tied oversize and clipped on bottom
