Do you prefer to tie on a rotary or non-rotary vice? I currently use a non-rotary and I am wondering if I should upgrade to a rotary vice. I mainly tie trout flies, size 12 to 18, and I am wondering if a rotary would allow me tie faster and with better quality?

I use a Peak rotary vise myself. It's the same one we use at the club. I (or someone at the club) can give you a hands-on demo pretty much any regular club meeting night.

For me, it helps with even spacing and I think the results look better.

Brendan...I purchased a peak vise quite a few years ago and love it. The main reason I bought it was because of my tying realistics. Now I don't have to remove the fly from the vise to view it from different angles.

Now that I have it, I find I use it for many applications, wrapping ribbing around the body is so much easier, same goes when palmering hackle.

You will not go wrong with getting a rotary. As for tying faster, I did not get a rotary vise for that reason and as for quality, just taking your time learning the techniques will eventually help you in tying quality flies, and with that in mind, you will find you will tie flies faster.
