DanM
I had a great time fishing with Dipperdan and Paul last Saturday. We started out on Ironside in the late am. Big fish of the lake was an 18" by the Dipper, I think on a backswimmer. My 16" rainbow hit a size 16 purple marabo leech. That turned out to be my hot fly for the day. All of us caught a bunch of stockers in the 7"-9" range. They will grow up for next year. At mid-late afternoon we went to Beaver. The wind had died down and the lake looked beautiful. About 50 m from shore, Paul had a nice hit. About 30 seconds later I got a 17" on the purple leech. I was basically trolling with a slow sink I line, with a 2"/sec sink rate. That fly produced 3 more fish going 18, 19, and 21". We left the lake about 7:30 for the long drive back to Edmonton. It was a very good day on Beaver with those fiesty rainbows pulling me around. I am especially grateful and appreciative of Dipperdan for taking a foreigner out. He provided a float tube, fins, and transportation. What a guy! I want to thank Paul for showing me another technique for tying the balanced leech. Sharing flies, fishing tips, and a great day on the water made my trip to Edmonton one I will remember a long time. Thanks again guys,Dan from California
dipperdan
We had ideas of headin north to Dolly , winds were up and we didn't want white cap fishen, so we headed south. Thought Don's puddles would be a good choice. We hit Iron first and had mixed reviews 6 to 18" mostly 8-10". After a few hours of showing the youngens what Don plans to do with them, we visited with Don's more experienced friends. At Beaver , the action started right from the start. Don was hiding around the corner, Paul and California Dan attracted a couple of fish, C.D. landed a nice 16"er . We rounded the corner and we saw Don high tailing it off the lake , his little woman musta called. The lake is up due to all of the rains they had of late. We rounded the world and C.D. was into fish again, him and his secret weapon ( purple micro leech, easy tie M.D. style ) on an intermediate line, he caught all the fish, 16" to 23" ( dam you C.D.), Paul did land some as well , me not.....It was a great day and we traded tips and flies. Great to have Dan and Paul to shoot the poo with. Cali.Dan will be up this fall, so we will take him out to the RDR and show him some real fishen!!!!! DennisS
Dan tell you what I won't be able to make it out but I will meet you guys for coffee in the morning. Just like to see the purple more than anything as there are so many different shades. I've got 5 or six paks of something saying it's purple but they all look different.
