Hi

So, I'll just get right to it. My name is Oliver, moved to Edmonton 4 years ago from Chilliwack, only really picked up fly fishing last year and really fishing in Alberta at all last year. Back in B.C. I spent most of my spare time fishing, near the river or doing volunteer work for fisheries related projects. I was a salmon/sturgeon/steelhead guide for three years in the Fraser Valley. I spent hundreds of hours per year during my last 5 years in B.C. doing volunteer work, mostly with the Greater Georgian Basin Steelhead Recovery Plan (GGBSRP)/ B.C. Conservation Foundation (BCCF) and the Fresh Water Fisheries Society.

I'm a noob of the highest caliber when it comes to fishing out here but I do have a lot of volunteer hours under my belt with fish sampling, electroshocking, stream rehab projects, stream flow monitoring, water sampling and brood stock fishing.

I'm not sure how often you guys meet or what kind of time requirements are expected but I would love to get back into giving back to the resources that I use most.

Thanks.

Hi Oliver great to have you aboard. The Club itself is down for the summer but that said we have an on going Grayling project in the Pembina Drainage thoughout the fishing season. The man you need to contact for that would be Ken Monk. He has posted lots lately on the Grayling Survey posting. He can explain what is happening and get you hooked up with a member that needs a partner. We hope to have frequent outing this summer in this area.

The club will start up again Wed Sept 17 then every Wed after that until Christmas then start back up in Jan and go until Mid June again.

With the club we try to combine Fly Fishing, Fly Tying & Conservation at our meetings

I hope this helps out. Hope to see you soon.

Hi Oliver,I am a NLFT/TU club member and I too would like to invite you to attend a club meeting in September. I am 78 and I have fly fished for 70 years and I will say that I don't think I have been in the company of as many experts at one time as attend the club's weekly meetings. You will find moving water and stillwater experts and the club invites other experts regularly to make presentations on good topics. Take the word expert out of it and I fall into the stillwater category. To give you an idea of the information available to you, please go to http://www.myalbum.com/Album=D6TAPACY. Here I have put together information on 62 trout lakes. The club also has an extensive library of fly fishing books. Please do not hesitate to contact me at neilstuartsutherland@gmail.com.

Cheers,

Neil
