Hank Peters
Since this will be my first time going, I have a few questions. Will Ford Ranger with new tires handle rd. Is there a place to camp or is one parked on road. Lastly is anyone planning to go on the Friday already: I wouldn't want to be the only one out there Friday night. Thanks Hank
dave robinson
Not to worry: I expect there will be a few folks out before Friday night. If it's resonably dry, I'll probably go out early myself. The weather thing mostly has to do with the road. It has a clay base, so if it rains a lot, it turns into a grease pit. A Ford Renger with new tires should be able to handle all but the worst grease. My van on the other hand is less forgiving. As for camping, it's off the road, but primitive. Bring a shovel and/or bucket for sanitary facilities. Bring your own water, cooking facilities, chair and table etc. YOu might want to bring a bit of wood for the communal fire too. Doc
Although the fishing sucked when we got there it did start to pick up at about 2pm . The sun made a presence and then we saw the htaches comming . Caddis, brown Drakes and Pale Morning Duns. Jason caught 10 or 11, Chris caught 7 and I caught 5. The biggest was my 14 incher caught on a PMD. Most fish were holding tight to the banks in back eddies. Thought it was going to be a dreadful day of fishing but really turned around when the sun came out and temps rose. I've never seen the Little Smokey that high before, visibilty wasn't to bad considering it's always tea colored anyway. It was like fishing a totaly different stream. dave robinson
Man that's some serious runoff. I'm surprised you guys actually managed to fish it. The foot of the south bidge pier is usually completly out of the water, not 3 ft under. One misstep and you'd be swimming fer sure. I may rethink my plans for the 'clave weekend. Weather permitting, the Black Nugget Starfest looks more enticing now. I'll substitute a trip or two to the Red Deer to make up for it.
vince
Hey RangerBob Thanks for the update on the river as well as the photos. I guess I'm at the same point as Dave is with regards the trip. I may have to rethink it as well. A point of discussion for sure at tomorrows meeting. See you all there. Vince

OBTW, I probably wouldn't have gotten stuck if that green truck with Manitoba plates wasn't parked where it was at. Hep_Cat saved the Bob Sled and got it out though. He's my hero. Doc
OBTW, I probably wouldn't have gotten stuck if that green truck with Manitoba plates wasn't parked where it was at. Friendly Manitoba? Isn't that what it says on those plates? I told him to move the truck but he just mumbled something about Backward A#s, Pyromaniac, Red Neck, Alberta Hicks Just kidding  I guess we didn't think it would have hindered you at all. Sorry about that RB. I'll send him a nasty email for you
