...then last Wednesday, March 05, 2014...I dropped in to check out Muir again after work, and this is what I saw...WOW, what a difference a couple of weeks make...is this normal? It is the first time I actually saw the ice build up like this.

Nice pictures. The icing up happens quite often with smaller aerators. There is an aerator on a pond near Peace River that, quite frequently, ices over entirely during a cold snap. There were times were it was just like somebody built a little igloo and set it over the aerator. Once it warmed up, the igloo would melt in the circulation.
