Boys and Girls

What a great meeting last night. It was awesome to have received a National Fisheries award for the work done by the club and my congrats to all.

The Tenkara presentation was awesome......very well done. I learned a lot about this style of fishing. I'm one of those guys that needs a lot of stuff so if I can figure out how to have a lot of stuff along with a Tenkara I just might give it a go.

I have to agree with Vince it sure was a great evening.

What I like about this award is it's a group award and we would never have won this award

except for all the work done by old and new memebers of the Northern Lights Fly Tyers/TU Edm.

It's nice to be reconized nationally for the work we have done.

Great job done by all. And we should give a hand for Dave B from DFO coming out to present the award to us.

Then what can you say about the Mark's presentation. It sure gives one food for thought. Mark thank you for such a great presentation. I sure will be doing some resource on this.

Also saw where I can do some new Dennisizing on them there flies. Got visions of glitter thread dancing in my head.

A great meeting, with lots of pleasant surprises. Of couse the hilite was the award presentation, but the introduction to Tenkara and sakasa Kabari was a fresh acient reintroduction to the alternative western fly fishing as we know it. I have been following the the Tenkara style for a few years now and its exploding and growing leaps and bounds, so much so that the major fishing manufactures such as Orvis, Sage and Winston just to name a few is getting into the game, so you will see growth, and with it comes higher prices for stuff you will not need for this traditional style of fishing. Here is a few links if it sparked some interest.

Great presentation by Mark, did anyone get his contact info?

Roy thank you for the links I have saved them in my favourites.

I just breifly went through them and already picked up a couple of things on the tying side.

I check out the Orvis site and the price sure wasn't bad mind you that would be US of course. But still pretty reasonable $215. and that's a complete outfit line and all.

Try and buy an orvis fly rod at that price.

Great links again Roy

Just so you are aware, the starter kit Orvis has advertised is not an Orvis made rod its the iwana model 12 ft Tenkara USA rod, and its not made by Tenkara USA either. I love false advertising.. as well as they are not made in Japan either, thery are made in China with "Japanese materials". Most of the rods are made by Shimano, Diawa you guessed it they also make lots of terminal tackle as well as bicycle parts.. can you guess who they also own ?.. yea you are right G.Loomis. I love the business world. You can get trueTenkara rods out of Japan by a few manufacturers, they are a little pricer beacuse of the higher percentage of carbon fibre content. these rods are quite a bit lighter.. you want light and strong when you (dap) "ooop's sorry Mark I meant cast  " a 12 to 14 foot long telescoping pole (Tenkara Rod). A basic starter Tenkara rod should on the average cost about $130.00, level line and tippet are pennies per/foot as mark explained, if you make them. Dennised tenkara flies start at $1.75 each, depending on the klinkhammer hook :clapping::clapping::clapping:

Cheers Roy..
