DennisS
I finally got out and did a bit of fishing on Sat. Wasn't bad wasn't great did catch fish. I headed out to the Embarass got on the water at about 11:30. Decided not to wet wade thank god I didn't the Misquito's we're terrible. And of course I forgot the bug spray. It didn't matter where you were, in the water or out. They just about picked you up and carried you away. I'm still scraching the dam bites. I fished for about 4hr and caught 5 fish 3 on the new CFF Parachute. Caught a couple of very nice Grayling one was pushing 13in & one pushing 12in. The 13iner was caught on a tan Cherynoble. I did a bit of exploring and ended up on a trib of the Embarass Mitchell Creek. My map said there was a spot just past there that was suppose to be just about touching the Embarass But couldn't find it. GPS didn't show well enough one way or he other. No major mishaps this trip bonus for me. Did run into one heck of a rain storm on the way home. The rain was so heavy the wipers couldn't keep the rain off. If you want to see the CFF Paracute just check the Dry forum I had posted a picture and receipt a few days ago.It does work. Junior
You know, I've been hearing for the past couple years that the Embarras was coming back, that the C&R regs were helping. But it seemed about the same to me. I thought it might be just because I was at a really public place. I was hoping you'd do better at one of your honey holes. What do you think? About the same it's been for the past ten years?
DennisS
I'm not sure if this is a good yr to determine that question. I thought the river was some what higher than normal but clear. As for honey hole I did catch fish in the bigger pools. I will say the the size was a bit better than I have caught on the average. I wouldn't mind trying it again in Aug. and with Bug juice. I think believe it or not the mesquito's had a diffenet effect how I fished. You didn't really want to stop long enough to switch flies or switch to nymphing. I pulled a Vince I Dry fly fished the whole day. There really wasn't a lot of rising action going on. There was insect life but not a lot. Only saw 1 stonefly, a few caddis and a yellowish may fly that I figure were PMD's It was great to get out and have a streach of water to yourself. vince
Boys, When in doubt...go to a dry. Not sure about others on this board but for me fishing on the Embarras has always been on the slow side. Very fishy water but catch rates for myself and others I have fished with has always been on the low side. I have read articles on how well the Embarras fishes but, like Junior, I've had only moderate success....as with all streams, the stretch you fish could very well determine your catch rate. It is, however, a pretty stream to lay a line on. Dennis, bug juice will affect your catch rate....smoke a cigar instead. Vince
Paulf
Dennis, bug juice will affect your catch rate....smoke a cigar instead.Vince...but cigars will affect your living rate...eat garlic...everything will stay away from you...
DennisS
Well if I had the 2 to pick from I'm thinking I'll take my chances with the Garlic. This way I not only get the Skeeters but No Bears or Vampires. Bonus I have to admit that was a well learnt lesson. Skeeto's don't normally bouther me but man were thay some bad. I'm still killing the odd one in the truck. Tight Lines AlwaysDennis S

Rockyman
I didn't make it to a single club meeting this winter. Not sure if my membership is still valid. Will have to check soon... Anyways, I have fished the Embarrass a few times and usually have a lot of fun with it. Two summers ago I found a section that gave up grayling with the same frequency as the Freeman on a good day. Can't complain about that in the summer. The athabows are fun to catch and can usually be found in the faster waters (but never as common as grayling, at least where I fish). DennisS
Rockyman I too enjoy the Embarass. The river has lots of Grayling that's for sure. If you want to go fishing and hope not to run into another fisherman it seems thats the river to try. For the amt of time I've fished it I don't think I have run into another fisherman. I've not caught many Athabascians where I fish but have caught lots up stream of Robb. One of my fishing buddings hooked into one that was a desent size but failed to get it to hand. I should have used a hopper dropper but I was experimenting with a couple of patterns the Fat Albert & my rebuild of the CFF the CFF Parachute. Am glad to say both work will. I was actually very happy on how the CFF Parachute worked. Tight Lines AlwaysDennis S
