dipperdan
I don't watch Fish Tv often . I had it on today and all the fish these two catch , they stick their hands into the gill plate to show off their catch. I am assuming this doesn't hurt the fish.I was going to say something but I would get in trouble.( like tit for tat) . Whats your catch on this procedure? SnoWolf
I'm sure there's a way to do it proper so there is no damage. I prefer to use a kinder method whenever possible...
PeterSL
The gills are the most sensitive areas on trout and although some may survive a degree of gill damage I believe most do not. Why risk killing a fish that you don't plan to eat by sticking fingers into it's gills! There's no proper way to do it.
Garhan
If you slide your hand between the gill plate and the gills, without touching the gills. It wont hurt the gills of the fish. But just like any other fish if you lift them by the gill plate so the fish hangs vertically then you risk damaging the spline and heart. Always cradle the fish in a horizontal fashion supporting the forward section of the belly. No other way to do it safely for the fish...
