Jim Fox
So it is mid-February and I haven't been thinking much about fly fishing. Today though, Fish Tales posted this on their Facebook wall: It inspired me. I have never been to a conclave on the Elk River in SE BC. This year, I am going to try to organize one. Probably sometime in August, probably staying near Fernie but I'm open to any suggestions. I'd like to fish the Elk itself (by pontoon boat), Michelle Creek and the Wigwam. I've also heard about some secret water way out in the woods. There are lots of options. Anyone interested in joining me? Jim Fox

Terry H
Some great fishing in those parts -- no question, and August is usually pretty good. However, don't forget, it's $20/day for a classified waters license. I don't think there's much in the way of campground right at Fernie, so you might want to look at Sparwood. There's a really nice campground there, and it's a more central location. There's some good stillwater fishing in those parts too. Jim Fox
Terry, I was thinking about Fernie because I know a few people with properties there. I don't know anyone intersted in having a bunch of rowdy fly fishers camping out in their yards. I'll check out the Sparwood campground. I actually lived in Sparwood in '69 and '70, before the streets were paved. It's probably nicer now.... There seems to be some traction on this trip on my other flyfishing contact list, FF@. I am going to work on what dates work for me and a specific location over the coming weeks and I'll post here. I hope to see some NLFT/TUE friends (old and new) come out. DennisS
Hi Jim nice to hear from you again. I will be down in the Crowsnest area for the first 2 weeks of Aug so I could slip over for a day or 2. if dates line up. I've never fished the Elk so it could be a new experince. Tight Lines always. Garhan
Try this link directly. We should have a conclave here on Alberta waters.

Jim Hello JimFernie does have a camp west of town,on the way to the ski hill. Or if you are fishing above Sparwood there is a camp at Elkford right on the river. Last time I camped there, back 20 years back, fish were active also. Farther up the river is Round Prairie , random camping on the river also. Have fun I be missing all the action.
