dipperdan
How about this topic ? Lets post a bug and try to figure out what it is, and maybe go as far as a Northern Lights Fly Fishers and Tyers book on Central Alberta Bugs. What do you think? vince
DipperDan Firstly, let me tell you that my eyesight is just fine and yes I can see a fly at 30 to 60 feet....you a funny guy. In terms of the mayfly posted, like Paul, I have no idea what it is but I'm sure there is someone out there that does know. I can tell you one thing though, if I saw one floating down the stream I would waste no time in putting on an RS Quad....BWO version. Junior
Isn't that the same mayfly from the Nov 11 thread? I still think it's a Pink Lady.
DennisS
Yes the same fly and yes to Pink Lady(Epeorus) The are a bit bigger than PMD and hatch at the same time roughly. I thought first it was a PMD or BWO but after doing a little research I have to agree with Junior. Yes Vince RS Quad would work Great but Maybe PMD or yellow would be closer than the BWO But then Adams would likely work at the right size. seeing out to 60ft not likely maybe 6ft is more like it Tight Lines Always Dennis S. dipperdan
You guys are refering to the Epeorus, (yellow quill, pink albert, pink lady). I do agree it does look very close, the eye on the photo I took appears to be smaller than on the photo of the yellow quill. The yellow quill tends to hatch more in the summer. Their were only a few fly's and where to the later part of the day, slower water, much like the Epeorus. I am just learning , and this will be a learning, fun topic. I do not disagree with your answers, was hoping Don could clear this up as he frequents the river and is from the area.I have been checking this site http://www.west-fly-fishing.com/entomology...low-quill.shtml . Do we have any other answers or queries ?Lets give this a good go at.....Dan

Don Andersen
dipperdan, Wished I could help. Got keys of all kinds - played the ID bug game for some time and finally realized that they come in gray, tan, brown, light yellow in several sizes from 26>12. A #14 CFF generally works just fine. Simplified matters. But have fun. regards, Don
