Don Andersen
Grumpy, A rod that old has historic value. I've cast rods built prior to 1900 but was really careful with them If it was me, I'd get an appraisal from somebody that knew what he was talking about [and No - this is not me or the kid @ the fly shop]. If the rod is worth anything @ all, I'd wall hang it. Mind you, if it's worth nothing, fish nymphs with it or better than that troll. [ just like I just did]. regards, Don
vince
Don Thanks for the picture and thanks for the info re: a 3 weight, 7'9" version of last years rod. I can't wait to see and perhaps get an opportunity to swing the rod when its complete and yes, by swinging it I could change my mind and step down to a 7'6". Man oh man, is the rod ever looking beautiful....you just cannot beat the look of a cane rod. I'm looking forward to the next picture. Don Andersen
The rod went casting today. In the spirit of driving the neighbors nuts, I went out to the front lawn and made some "snow snakes". Started with a Cortland 444 DT3F and the rod worked just fine. Switched to a Cortland 444 DT4F and if anything it cast better. Laided out some mileage markers and tried the 3 wt. again. From 30>60', the rod performed well. After 60', a wind wouldn't allow turn over. The 4 wt. allowed line turn over and I was casting 70+ feet. So, the rod is done - called the gal that does my rod bags and it should be ready Tuesday afternoon. Then it's get the aluminum case sized and the job is done. Pictures to follow. regards, Don
DennisS
Don sound really nice. I will have to pick up a ticket or 2 this time around. That just so Vince won't win it. That way him & I might be able to cut a sweet deal. No really Don rod sound very sweet. I just might keep it if I win. How does that sound Vince. talk to soon Don. Terry H
Don, sounds great. When it's already to go, why don't you just send it down to me. After all, I going to have the winning ticket, and this will just save time. You ok with that Vince? Terry
vince
Dennis & Terry You guys are thinking the wrong way...in order for each of you to receive karma points you must direct your thoughts to Vince winning the cane rod. It was cool to read that Don has the cane rod finished and cool to hear how it casts with a line. For small streams a 30 to 60 foot cast is more than ample...in fact, it's darn near perfect. Don, I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished rod. Vince

Jim Fox
Will you guys sell tickets to those "outside" the group? I'd buy one for a chance at this rod. Jim
DennisS
Hi Jim long time no talk. How have you been. Hope you and family are doing well. Jim yes tickets are sold to the public. Not sure but we start selling tickets shortly (not 100% sure but at our Jan seminar) then at the Edmonton Sportsman show and then the Fishing Hole Show at the end of march early Apr. We draw the ticket on the Sunday of the Fishing Hole Show) Then of course at the club right up until the end. I'm sure if you want tickets we can make arrangement also just let me know how many you want. Are there any plans for a Clave this yr and if so where. Maybe I can plan some of my holidays around the date. Sure enjoyed the ones down south. Talk to soon Tight Lines Always Dennis S

Don Andersen
Folks, Here are some shots of the fishing pole. And Vince, No drooling on the keyboard - it'll short out. Don
vince
Don You should have told me not to drool at the begining of your post not at the end...thank goodness I had a spare keyboard. What can I say about the cane pictures Don...the rod is beautiful and whoever wins the rod is going to have a rod for a lifetime of enjoyment and I sure hope that person is me. I know a few streams in the Crow area and in your area that would be perfect for the rod. I really can't wait to give it a swing.....make sure you keep all of the rod specs just in case I don't win it as I just may have to order one. A beautiful rod Don and thank you...you are a true artist. Vince

I was thinking about coming up for the tying seminar but I've got to sort out details first. As for Conclave plans, I haven't made any for 2012 yet. Last year we had a small group camping north of Nordegg and fishing on the Blackstone River. There we talked about something in eastern BC or possibly on Vancouver Island. I will post details on the site as soon as I have any info. Jim
