dave robinson
I've been waiting to get some computer issues sorted out at home so I can process some of the photos. That said, we did have a great time. There were eight of us, 3 from NLFT Edmonton, three from Calgary and two from down east. Our trip was the first week of May. Fish Tails in Calgary runs them from late April to the end of May to Cayo Coco. The trip was an 8 day trip, but with a travel day via TO on each end we spent 6 days on the water. Negatives: Dang wind never stopped blowing. A 24 hour flu bug (caught on the plane I think) hit each of us in turn. Our return flight was delayed so the TO connection was a running one. Mediocre: Hotel accomodation was not 5 star, but not much below 4 star. Acceptable but not fancy. Food was reasonable. The buffet had lots of selection and the al la cart menus were good. Again nothing exceptional, but edible. Positives:Westjet service. Charter company staff were all helpful and friendly. No rain to speak of, beautiful beach and pool and rum punch at the end of the day. Exceptional: Fish Tails service and our guide were excellent. The fishing superb . Snapper, bonefish, permit and tarpon caught. Tarpon fishing was a hoot. Fellow anglers were outstanding people to spend a week with. Never a dull moment. Oh and the price. If you exclude equipment purchased for the trip, the cost was less than I've spent for a 4 day trip salmon fishing on the west coast. Don't know next years cost, but you could probably do it for under $3k All in all an teriffic experience. We all are ready to go back next year. It would be nice of we could make it an all NLFT trip
