This is why you should always have a nice hard protective case around your fly rod...

This evening I was rushing out the door and caught my 5wt fly rod in the door as I closed it on the way out. It Looked okay up until I finished tying the boat up and decided that since I was at the lake that it was worth attempting a few casts between wind gusts. Casting didn't work so well against the wind but I did discover that the shaft had been crushed and is now split just above the cork when I tried to load the rod.

Is there anyone or any method to repair this or am I going to need to replace the whole rod. ( this poor rod didn't even get a chance to catch anything )

Any advice is appreciated.

is there any way to tell what weight a line is after having removed it from the box?
