Golden Trout In Central Alberta?

Recommended Posts

I got a question on the FF@ list about golden trout located close to the Blackstone conclave location. I did a bit of searching and found that there are two lakes "close" by (Michelle and Coral Lakes) that have goldens. They are reputed to be a tough day-long hike in and another out (see this link: http://flyanglersonline.com/features/canada/can306.php).

Another option to get to the lakes is a helicopter - they drop you off and pick you back up the same day or the next day.

Anyone have experiences to share about this?

We went up to Michele a few years ago. We flew out of the base of the Cline River. It was about an 11 minute flight. We stayed overnight. There are only fish in the Lower Lake. You basically fish where the water braids come down to the Lake. Fish early and late for the best fishing. Check the regulations as I don't think it opens until Aug. Coral is the other lake and it is the headwaters of the Big Stone. It is also a more expensive flight as it is farther.

You are right that the lakes don't open until 1 August, so that trip isn't going to happen this year. Thanks for the input!
