jacobin Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Just wondering if some of you more 'experienced' fly fishers could tell me something. Is it better to use a roll cast or side arm cast in 70km winds? Just tired of having all this line swirling around my head. Pat Quote

I cast with my downwind arm in a side wind and rollcast (when practical) when the wind is coming directly from behind me. You'll find that if you concentrate on casting well, the wind plays a much smaller role. Tight loops and efficient power will minimize the wind - learning to cast with both hands lets you move the line away from the pain zone when required. Don't fight the wind - just lower your expectations for what a 'good' cast looks like. Quote
