AussieSteve Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Hi all, This is my first post on the forum so I thought i better ask the obvious question has anyone actually been fishing? Couldn't see any chatter about it, perhaps i was lookin in the wrong forum! I had about 12 casts last week up in the mountains inbetween the gusts and flurries. Didnt spot any fish,Didnt spot anyone else fishin, perhaps thats saying something. Water was crystal clear on the upper Bow and the athabasca rivers. The lakes were'nt open to be fished when we were up around Jasper. Maybe thats what everyone was waiting for on the long weekend? Quote
dipperdan Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Hello Steve. This can be the right forum, and YES everyone does seem QUITE!!!!! I was out camping in Saskatchewan and DID CATCH FISH. A small lake about 3hrs east of Edmonton and the fish where a biten, tried to post some pictures last night but, I HATE THE UPGRADING OF PROGRAMS........ It really Pi!!es me OFF. So I wasn't able to post them will try again. Dan Quote
milelongleblanc Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 The North Saskatchewan River is having a record spring! The water still has that glacial-green hue, and the fish are feeding. My score so far? 23 walleye, 47 goldeye, 1 mooneye, 3 sauger. No pike so far, but in less than an hour last night I caught a dozen fish. How come you guys don't fish the NSR? Oh yeah, no trout. DennisS Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Rick where about your fishing the NSR. When you get back maybe get a bunch of us and let give it a try. Like to try up river of the Genesse Bridge. Tight Lines Always Dennis S Quote
don't have a clue Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I am going to the Clearwarer tomorrow does any one know if it is flood at the moment. Unlike most on this site I will share my experience Quote
milelongleblanc Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Dennis, I mostly fish the NSR near my home; if I still had my throwing arm I could literally hit Dawson bridge with a stone from my front porch. If you drive over the bridge and look north, you'll see a small sand bar. I fish there, and also at the next inside bend upstream. Of course, I also make the occasional foray to Whitemud or Rundle. I've never fished up by Genesee, but I'd be happy to try that out, or show you my spots. Rick Quote
tuber Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 When the water is low enough, there's also a nice spot on the inside bend on the east side of the river across from that sand bar, just below the golf course. Just make sure you don't leave anything that might be remotely interesting visible in your vehicle when you park at the golf course parking lot. Summer before last my brother's window got smashed and a cheap rod case stolen - nice thing was all the glass landed on a child seat that I put into his truck so we could bring my little guy fishing (he caught his first fish that day). AussieSteve Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Hey, i went on google earth to look at the NSR as i dont have a car to scope it out myself. As a new comer to the area it was a great way to get an idea of the river, structure, sandbars etc . Holy crap I think ive become a cyber virtual fisherman. how pathetic! HELP somebody take me Fishing! Quote
don't have a clue Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I went to the Clearwater on Friday and it is still low and very clear. I didn't hook any fish but did sight a few and had a great day. Went to North Raven on Saturday and got a few bites saw a few fish. I saw one fish about 2 feet lond with another fish in it's mouth side ways. I always thought that fish swallowed other fish down in one gulp so this was a strang sight. Quote
johnk Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Just got back from Forest Lake in BC where the chironomid fishing was great. Fishing size 16 patterns with 8 lb. fluorocarbon tippet down 19 ft. and still managed to donate several flies. Home for one day to replenish the fly boxes and off to Dawson Creek area tomorrow. Quote
RangerBob Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Just strung up my rod, and heading out for first solo trip of season tonight to my homewater honeyhole @ Cardiff. Hopefully they are biting. Doesn't really matter to me... so long as I am near water TONIGHT. What a month, year... uggggg, yeah, where have the past six months gone. Is it hunting season yet? Quote
