Hello All. This forum was recommended by one of my clients. For the past nine years I was the Operations Manager at Tunkwa Lake Resort near Kamloops, BC. I have also tied commercially for the past twelve years which thankfully is coming to an end. Now maybe I can get some flies into my own box! I have relocated to Fox Creek and for the last week I have been mercilessly hounding one of your members, Doc, for stillwater info and he has been graciously accommodating. I absolutely live for stillwaters and am almost lost fishing rivers but I live close to the Little Smoky so I may have to hone that craft. I look forward to applying some of my original patterns, most of which are chironomids, to Alberta lakes. I am also eager to meet and share water with some of the members here. Looks like a great site with a lot of knowledgeable fishers.

Thanks. John

Welcome John,

I have always wanted to turn of the main highway before Kamloops and head up the hill to Tunkwa, but it never materialized. Instead the main stop was at Douglas lake Ranch. You must miss those Gerard strain fighting rainbows from the Kootenay's!

Welcome to the Web page. With you living in Fox Creek you will have no lack of members coming and doing some fishing with you. As you said the Little Smokey is not far and that is the #1 Grayling stream. SHHHHH don't till Brian B but also great Bull trout stream. I didn't say that though. I'm sure the members will have no problem getting you into the stream fishing mode.

Also your not to far from Swan Lake and some of Alberta's biggest rainbow are coming from there.

Look forward to meeting you and see some of your fly patterns. Please do post some of them.

Thanks Roy. If you're ever back that way in early August DO turn off the highway. There is a smaller lake near Tunkwa that has an awesome chironomid hatch that lasts about 3 weeks. I believe it draws Mr. Rowley there year after year. Unfortunately in the last couple years it has become quite a zoo as the summer doldrums have hit other lower elevation lakes and being at almost 4000 ft. it is the only game in town. As far as DLR goes in the past I have guided there once a year for one day for Casting For Recovery(women recovering from breast cancer). It was always held at Stoney Lake Lodge where the lake holds trout to 30".

The down side to working at a busy fishing resort was I never got time to do any more than day trips so I have never fished the Kootenay Gerrards which is realistically 7-8 hours from where I was. Really looking forward to hanging chironomids in Swan and a couple other lakes.

Thanks Dennis. I will definitely post photos of some of my patterns when I get everything unpacked and figure out where everything is.
