RangerBob
More specifically - Reuben will be sharing some of the new Light curing materials that he offers for fly fishers and tyers.Just regurgitating what Diss 'Dave wrote in the newsletter. Uhm... don't get me started on UV Lights today. Suffice to say I hucked my $30 Loon UV lamp in total disgust at the wall last night. One of the pricey LR1 batteries corroded inside and could not be removed. Only ever used once too. I will stick with Poxy for now, but be interested if these guys have a better UV light then Loon. Otherwise, I am bringing the UV EPROM bulk eraser from work to setup on my bench. Has a foam tray for sticking flies in and everything. http://images.google.ca/images?client=fire...sa=N&tab=wi
dave robinson
Ranger Bobber: You gotta stop swimming with your toys! Wet batteries means corroded batteries. You should check any battery about every 6 months anyway. Their cases typically contan nasty stuff that doesn't always stay put. So don't blame the light itself. As for the presentation tonight, the material Ruben will be talking about does not cure using UV light, but high intensity visible light. We got a preview at the FFE in Calgary. dave robinson
Nah My light is more subdued. Kind of like a pale halo.
RangerBob
NahMy light is more subdued.Kind of like a pale halo.LOL! Not Uber Bright Blue like this one? Neat 2 hour long product demo. Uhm.. glue.. add 20 seconds of light... I get it. More Product Info Here: http://wetahook.net My guess is they may sell a few of these at the Fishin Hole Sale this month. Especially if 20% OFF... as $100 regular price is pretty steep for a light and some glue. The bonus of this system (as I see it).. is the AC/DC option, so I don't have to deal with batteries anymore. Dang, I may have a custom built Epoxy Flea Circus Wheel for sale soon. http://forum.nlft.org/index.php?showtopic=...;hl=Flea+Circus Well, like the Whiz Bang Marc PeitJean Magic Tool... for all those that get one of these.. I think I'll have to host the first Tuffleye StoneFly Swap. So sound off if you are planning to get one... or got one.
stevenpo
Hey guys, I am wondering if any of you guys have used a product called Softex. here is an example of flies built with it. http://yhst-93962238211049.stores.yahoo.net/cpnat.html It seemed similar to what the guy was using last night. I have no idea about the drying times though. HEre is the link on how he ties them http://www.robsrealistics.com/tie.html The 5 second drying time of that stuff last night was real attractive! I have ordered a few of these flies and will bring them to the meeting when I receive them Steve
RangerBob
Hey Steve, I recognize the Waspi Nymph Skin and have worked with that before... soft it is indeed... I usually wind up cutting it with my thread every time. However, I think you are mentioning the other stuff here, and no I have not worked with 'Softex' stuff. But had seen something like it in a flyshop in B.C. and was tempted. I think it would make some fine Saltwater patterns and gummy Pike Flies. Looks like a silcone base to me, and the drying time would be like overnight. Effect would be different as well.. soft body and not hard arcrylic... so each has a purpose. http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/O...cts-Softex.html Ever since I seen that glue demo last night myself.. I have a plan for a new emergent caddis pattern to try out when I finally do lay my hand on it. For now, will prototype in Toxy Poxy. =) PS - These Epoxy Eggs look nice too. http://www.about-flyfishing.com/library/weekly/aa052603a.htm
stevenpo
I think the stuff from last night could be applied to strengthen the body of many flies especially nymphs. I havnt started flytying yet but would love to have some to apply to existing flies.I am just started researching about entomology and cant wait to try tying some flies myself My dad is giving me his set up next weekend (not sure how good it is) so I am starting on the adventure of tying. I am happy I found this group and be surrounded with experienced tyers who can help and encourage along. I am looking forward to seeing the stonefly nymph from the guy I mentioned previously.just bought a few out of curiosityhttp://yhst-93962238211049.stores.yahoo.net/stnypa.html

I have enough stuff (erm.. road kill) to bestow upon three family generations now myself. Yes.. there are flies for fish... and flies for fisherman. When learning, and travelling it almost always pays off to buy a few of the local patterns to bring back and "Johnny Number Five.. Dissasemble." to see how they are made.
