Doc Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 (edited) Just want to remind everyone that we are hosting "Flies & Beer" at Santannas (17930-Stony Plain Road) at 7pm Monday June 07. Bring a base for your vise if you have one and a lamp is a must. Specials on beer & wings, bring the wives as all are welcome over the age of 18. For those of you in the fly swap, you can make this the day to tie up your 10 flies. If you don't feel like tying, just come on down to chat and have a brew. Cheers,Doc *NOTE: Our last Flies 'N' Beer for 2004 will be held on Monday October 18th. This special Flies 'N' Beer will feature a tying demonstration by stillwater expert Phil Rowley with his StillWater and Superfly tying material.Flies 'N' Beer will resume in the spring of 2005. Doc Posted April 29, 2004 Author Posted April 29, 2004 You guys think it's a good idea to run flies and beer all summer? Do you think tiers will come out just to tie a few and do some bulls##tting? Or maybe just have it going from fall through spring? Just want everyones two cents Personally I think that since it only happens one day a month, it may give the club memebers a chance to get together over the summer and trade some stories.
Scratch Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 I'm with you Doc - When the summer meeting schedule is in effect (AKA - Go fishin) it would be cool to have a regular 'keep-in-touch' meeting - and Flies and Beer is a perfect place for it. Now - more than ever we'll have a good place to advertise it too - so .. <begin .02$> YAY FLIES AND BEER! </begin .02$>
DennisS Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 Hi Doc what we could do is set it up as a per month thing then if it isn't panning out then you could shut it down. But it sure would be a good way to keep in contact and tell some fishy stories throught the summer. Tight Lines Always Dennis S NLFT&F
Doc Posted April 30, 2004 Author Posted April 30, 2004 I agree Dennis. We just need the bodies there as I have to justify to my partner why I'm opening and paying a staff member. The first one went well but the second one could have been a lot better. Of course the second one was right after the Outdoor show and I know a lot of guys were just plain tired of tying all weekend. Just so everyone knows, we've got $1.75 mugs of darft and $3.50 for a dozen wings. This specail is only on for flies and beer and you don't have to be a member to come down so bring you friends.
Scratch Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 HUNT PIKE! HUNT PIKE! HUNT PIKE! HUNT PIKE! HUNT PIKE! HUNT PIKE! Sung to the tune of Foamy the Squirrel.... "Toothy bastards.... fricken toothy...."
Scratch Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Once again - Special Thanks to DOC for hosting Flies and Beer! The small contingent of Tyers invaded at 7 and tied till 10:30. New patterns, lessons, and some sharing of secrets and techniques made this more than worthwhile - I'm just cheezed that the turnout was so small! In honor of the poorest turnout to date (AHEM...) I present....... The SMALLEST WALLYWING EVER! (Wally will be able to confirm....) A size 28 (Yes - Twenty Eight) Beer bet winner! The WallyWing Adams (Size 28) Adams rabbit dubbing, microfibbet tail, ginger whiting hackle, and a mallard flank wallywing! This will be at the next NLFT&F Meeting for display - until it is either fished, or sent to Wally.... Cheers! (Image attached)
Scratch Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 The WallyWing Adams (Size 28) Adams rabbit dubbing, microfibbet tail, ginger whiting hackle, and a mallard flank wallywing! Here it is - poised on a Good ol nickel for scale...
pacres Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 28.. that's sick. Sorry I couldn't make it out. I was planning on it be alas, I had to earn a dollar. I'll make it a priority to be at the next flies and beer. Doc - there's no need to get a staff member out for the night. We can put Scratch in a dress and let him serve.
DennisS Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Looks like I missed a good one. Sorry Doc couldn'r make it had our first ball game of the season. My body telling me that I might have done better coming out. Let us know if your willing for june. Tight Lines Always Dennis S. NLFT&F
Doc Posted May 10, 2004 Author Posted May 10, 2004 RB, also a pleasure meeting you and everyone else that showed up. Hell, Brian even came with his neck brace (now there's a trooper). Lot's of fun tying with you guys, now we just have to get out and fish together. We'll do another flies and beer the first Monday in June and see if more will come out to this one. I'm hitting Spring Monday morning to try these Christmas Chronies there and see if I can tube a lunker. Thanks for the support and lets get some tyers in there to pay for our waitress Shari.
Doc Posted May 11, 2004 Author Posted May 11, 2004 Pretty neat how the heat on the wings are timed eh? They get hotter and hotter as you finish them up. Bring your sauce next time Bob, I love "HOT" food and would get a kick out of your 5 alarm wings
dave robinson Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Be careful what you wish for Doc. Last time I was at RB's place, I damn near died. He made two wing versions, hot and wimp. The hot vesion were nearly too hot to eat. The wimp was edible, but did leave a signifigant after burn. Now remember, I 'm the guy that tried to kill RB at a Star Party with my famous five alarm curry. So he retaliates with wings and beer \ Different spices for different vises I guess. I think RB is a misplaced Cajun
Doc Posted May 12, 2004 Author Posted May 12, 2004 Now remember, I 'm the guy that tried to kill RB at a Star Partywith my famous five alarm curry. Mmmmmmm... Curry I'm the type of guy that will eat a wing (or some curried lamb) and Umbridge and complain how hot it is, wipe my forhead (and sometimes tears from my eyes) and go for more When I was younger, my buddies and I would each put 5 bucks in the pot and who ever could last the longest eating the hottest wings we could make or order without taking a drink of anything, would take the pot. I won my share of pots but it was a painful display of manhood Now I really can't wait for the next Flies 'N' Beer P.S. The wings gotts taste good to though. I've had hot wings before that were hotter than hell but tastle like sh#t
Doc Posted May 20, 2004 Author Posted May 20, 2004 I just noticed that the Flies 'N' Beer is not on the comming events calender on the NLFT's site for June 07th. Can we add that? Thanks guys
Doc Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 Just a reminder that Flies 'N' Beer is this Monday night at 7pm. Hope you can all make it. We need some people out to keep it going
Paulf Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 See you there. Hey RB, when you said go flames go, were you talking about the hockey team or your 5 alarm wings. lol What pike patterns were you thinking of tying? I'll bring some materials along and hopefully pick up a few pointers. Haven't really tied much in the way of pike flies. See you guys Monday Paulf
Doc Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 I had a great time yesterday, Pike on fly in the morning and Flies 'N' Beer in the evening. Thanks to everyone who showed up for Flies 'N' Beer, had a good turn out and that's what we need to keep this thing going. Special thanks to Lance (Ranger Bob) for the dvd's and his five alarm hotwings Can't wait 'til we do it again P.S. That's the fastest flies I've ever tied Just glad I got them done in time.
DennisS Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Great time had by all. Glad you got to tie some Doc. I managed to get 7 of 10 foam flies done for Lances Foam Swap. I just got my copy of tying Emergers in the mail today. Man what a book there enough pattern in there to keep one going for years. Again Thanks Doc Also thanks Lance for DVD Tights Lines Always Dennis S. NLFT&F
Doc Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 I gotta say RB, those wings were DANG HOT!!! I did manage two wings and contemplated a third but I guess my mangina was acting up A true test of manhood right there in those wings Hope you bring 'em again for the next Flies 'N' Beer You da man RB!
Doc Posted June 23, 2004 Author Posted June 23, 2004 Just letting everyone know, the next Flies 'N' Beer will not be held on Monday July 5th but rather Monday July 12th as something has come up on the first Monday in July. Sorry for any inconvienance, I hope to see eveyone out on the 12th. Also can we get that posted on the upcomming events calender?
Doc Posted July 8, 2004 Author Posted July 8, 2004 Once again, just reminding everyone that Flies 'N' Beer is this Monday the 12th at 7pm. I hope I finally get to see my Chironomids from the fly swap since I'm allways working during the Wed meetings/fishing trips. Hope we can get lots of folks out and RB brings his "5 ALARM WINGS" P.S. If anyone sees Brian B before the flies n beer can you ask him to bring my club membership card on monday (assuming he's going to be there)
Doc Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 Once again we will be changing Flies and Beer to the 2nd Monday of the month. Due to the first Monday in August being a holiday, Our next Flies 'N' Beer will take place on Monday August 9th. Please make note of this, it is not the 2nd.
Doc Posted August 4, 2004 Author Posted August 4, 2004 What a better place to tie your swap flies than at Flies 'N' Beer! Gotta say it's been a little quiet in here without old Ranger Bob at the keyboard. Hope you're comming on Monday so you can fill us in on how your trip to Saskabush went.
