Comment: The Bow River Bugger combines the attributes of the wooly bugger and the muddler. The originator of the fly was Peter Chenier, a Bow River outfitter.

BEGINNERS TYING:

Pattern: Royal Wulff

Hook Dry fly - # 10 to # 16

Thread 6/0 to 8/0 black

Tail: Elk hair

Body: Peacock Herl and Red Floss

Wing: Calf Tail (original) or Antron (easier)

Hackle: Brown Neck

Comment: The seventh session will cover a traditional dry fly pattern. It doesn’t really look like anything natural, but for some reason, is very productive.

I was googling sculpin wool (to determine if it is a synthetic like some websites say, or dyed coarse wool like I think it is) and lo and behold I come across this article by Alberta Al about the Bow River Bugger:

Bow River Bugger

And he even mentions my favourite variation with sculpin wool substituted for deer hair.

On Wednesday I will show you how to tie both.
