Brazeau Canyon Lodge

Guys

What a great time we had at the Brazeau Canyon Lodge. We left Edmonton early afternoon and we were soon into rain and more rain but by the time we hit Entwhistle the rain stopped and the sun shone and shone and shone. We had sun and warmth the whole darn weekend. A little windy on Saturday afternoon but nothing to be concerned about.

The rivers were a dark chocolate brown and running fast and high so we stuck to the lakes. We fished Miskiki, Thunder and while my son and I did not fish Fairfax everyone else did and from what I saw and have heard the fishing was good.

This annual trip, for me anyway, is to start the year off with a great bunch of guys, enjoy way to many beer and the odd Southern Comfort along with a cigar or two. The campfire chit chat and BS is by far one of the reasons I go to the Brazeau. The facility is just the right amount of rustic and the right amount of comfortable. Let's see now...drank to much which meant I slept and rested to much which means I didn't fish as much as I wanted too but the journey is as important as the fishing and those beds in the cabins are so darn comfortable you just don't want to get up.

This year I got real lucky and had the pleasure of having my son Paul join me..what a great time I had with his company. Just having him with me made my weekend.

If it were up to me we would have two trips to the Brazeau..one in June to start the year and one in September when the streams and rivers are running clear and beautiful and the nights get just a bit brisker.

I've got a few pictures to post but won't be able to do it till tomorrow night.

Again, great sunny days, great cabins, good food and drink and most of all great company.

Paul

Streams are always blown that time of year...the rains the previous week plus usual runoff but no matter Paul - a good time was had and before I forget "Big John" says howdy to you.

I think we had about 17 or so not sure...a think a whole lot of people did not go because they thought it was raining out there. Paul, not a word of a lie...the days were hot and sunny and the road was in such good condition I dare say that a regular car could have made it with no problem.

See you tomorrow night

Fishing was great. I can now check cuts and brookies off of my never caught before list.:clap:

Campfire chatter was great and thanks to Vince I learned a few things about leaders and tippet. :D

Already looking forward to next year.

Now, are we going to use Rio or Climax or Maxima....build our own or store bought or do we go with furled....ah, so many questions and so little time to get them answered.

I'm still thinking about the great time at Brazeau and hope that we can put something together for mid September when the streams are running clear and the lakes are near perfect.
