I am heading up to Grande Cache next week for a week of fishing, We will fish lakes and streams. While I know the lakes quite well I do not know the streams at all. Looking to catch my first Bull. Muskeg River, Lone Teepee Creek are close to where will be based.

Does anyone have any recomendations of good places to visit?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Muskeg is the one to be sure to fish. There are some very large Bulls in there. Both above and below the falls. There are suppose to be some very nice Rainbow above the falls also. I've fished the Muskeg many years ago just as I was starting to fly fish and didn't do the well. Not because the fish wer'nt there.

Berland of coarse is another I've also heard that at times the Sheep is okay. There is a mine road that goes back in behind and crosses farther up stream. Again fished it many years ago. Same result.

Beautiful country take the camera.

Hope this helps a bit.

I caught some massive bulls right where Muskeg river flows into the Smokey.

The hard part is getting there...sort of....

Just head north out of Grande Cache towards Grande Prairie.

Just before and I mean just before you get to the power plant hang a right and go across the bridge....it is allowed!

Then follow the road to the left and stay left...then shortly you will come across a little blue bridge that crosses the Muskeg River. I have fished at the mouth and at the little back eddy just upstream of the bridge. I did not venture too far upstream as at the time there was a foul odor in the air and I did not want to come across a grizzly.....AND NOT IT WAS NOT ME....although it could have been....I was camping after all.

I've heard stories from my parents, uncle, and grandparents of fishing Teepee Creek back in the 70's and 80's, and there were some massive bullies in there. They said the fishing declined though, and it was never the same due to forestry and too many meat fishermen on the creek. Sad... If only we could have the fishing back to the way it was in the province in the 70's (with the new regs though). The National Parks would be killer too.

OK some free time now,

We camped at Pierre Greys for 7 days, We did some exploring but due to some rain we never fished any of the streams up there, next time maybe.

Fishing was OK at the lakes.

By OK I mean tons of fish caught, none of which was very big.

The main lake had the most action and the smallest fish mostly rainbows, Biggest was probably 16". We were easily catching fish every minute or 2.

The second "Brookie" lake was slow, I managed only one Brookie landed which was about 13" I only fished this lake for 4 hours total. I did loose a brute while trying out my chironomid techniques.

The upper Lake we fished the most as it seemed the bigger Rainbows were there. Fishing was quite fast, the biggest Rainbows landed were 17" and we all got our share of them. Tuber landed 3 Bull Trout here as well a nice 17" one an 13" and a little one as well.

It was a great trip but I would have liked to do the creeks more and I wish the fish were bigger.

Sorry I didn't get back to you before you went out there.....

But that is the spot!

When I was there it looked like very nice water. I did not have to explore too much upstream as I was catching fish after fish right where I set in....But the water upstream looked really nice.

Almost like the Red Deer just down from the dam....about knee to waist deep water that is moving quite well with lots of larger rocks that are easy to wade....
