Flywing
Hi All; found a paperback book called "Fishing Jasper National Park Special Fly Patterns Illustrated" by Russell Thornberry & Peter Grimwood. They didn't include a publishing date. Anyone have this book? Any ideas on a date for it? Wally
GeorgeG
I also have that book.I bought it at the "Fishin Hole" if my memory is correct,in St Albert when Russell first open the store. They were in alittle hole in the wall space in downtown St Albert. There was another fella working the store for Russell. His name was Gary Carlson, and he created the "52 Buick" fly.I remember him saying it was his go to fly at Hasse Lake.Anyway that was the spring of 1975 & I was in junior high.Picked up my first fly rod-Eagle claw fiberglass & Diawa reel from them.Price marked in pencil in book, is $3.75...to funny.A flood of great memories. Thanks George, they thank everyone who provided info and flies at the beginning but don't credit anyone in the fly pattern index. I see Reg Denny is mentioned in the Foreword too. Must have been in a hurry to get it on the shelves. Wally
Dragon Troller
Next time I see my Dad I'll check to see if he has one, If his name is in it then I'm sure he does. S. Denny
Terry H
Wally, I had a copy of the book also, although be damned if I know where it is. I'm with George -- I'm sure I got it in the late 70's, when the fishing in Jasper was great. Terry
King Salmon
I have a couple copies of that book. Got one from my parents and one from my grandparents place lol. I enjoyed reading that book a couple of times just to see how the fishing was in JNP back then. Man I wish they still stocked some of the lakes in the park...that would kick some real a$$, just seeing the growth that the fish had in some of them. Dragon Troller: That's where I first saw some of your dad's patterns, and a little excerpt he had in there about a certain lake (I think it was Annette, but I could be wrong).
