Hi Guys, im a new member to the board and an active outdoorsman. I took up flyfishing about 4 years and am now a complete addict with no chance of recovery. My wife has recently shown an interest in the sport, unfortunately, i am a terrible teacher. Is there any beginners course coming up that might be through this organization or others that anyone knows of? Thank toy in advance for your responses

Luke.

Tell your wife welcome to the life. I guess what one would need to know is do want instruction in fly tying or fly fishing. Either way the club is a great place to get information. There is a heck of a lot of information passed around at meetings for those who ask or are willing to listen. The club has beginner and intermediate casting and tying courses. I'm not sure what the dates are, but I'm sure someone with more info on the subject will fill you in soon. Best is to bring her to a meeting or two and ask around. Also, check out the section with the newsletters. That may give you some of the information you are looking for...

Best of luck.

You're among friends here then Luke. I'm sorta glad my wife never got into it... but it's cool that yours did.

There are some casting courses coming up soon, and we have beginner tying course from time to time. Check out the current newletter on the main page... and welcome to the forum. Hope you'll come out to a meeting and join us there too... both of yah.

You have come to the right place.

Northern Lights Fly Tyers & Fishers prides itself on being a teaching club.

Beginner seminars are available for both fly tying and fly casting.

Exact dates for those are not in place yet, probably in a week or two.

Typically though, the one day beginner tying seminar is in mid April

with the Beginner casting seminar in mid May and the intermediate one early June.

Don't wait for those though. We have an ongoing program with lots ot learn.

And your wife need not be shy, we do have other lady members.

Come out to a meeting and meet the friendliest group fo fly fishers around.

Yeah... I'm a bit rusty too. Doc and I were gonna arm wrestle today for the last copy of the Lefty Kreh Casting DVD sitting at his shop.. $29 only too. Such a deal.. I may have to reconsider.

I learned my casting from an old Mel Krieger VHS tape... somehow I think I've forgotten more then I watched on it.

Be interesting to see what happens when that electronic casting machine says when it makes an appearance up here next month.

Will that be at the sportsman show? of the fishing hole show? Maybe thats what would help.... THough, it may just tell me to go back to spin casting or playing slo-pitch....

At the club, I think the 29th of March, although I could be wrong about the date

Yep, at the Club meeting on the 29th of March.

Peter Morrison will be bringing it along.

For those who don't know Peter,

He's a fly tyer, west coast guide, Sage rep. for BC

and rep. for SA and Gudebrod products.

Peter is also a casting instructor.

He'll be at the Outdoor show, probably in the Bare booth

I fished with him at Haa Nee Naa lodge 2 years ago.

He helped quite a but with my double haul...

and double coho hookups. :D
