rena Posted October 9, 2005 Posted October 9, 2005 I am very interested in coming to your next meeting but I have a question...I have noticed that most of the people writing to your website are gentlemen and I am a woman and I LOVE fly fishing and am very interested in becoming an adept fly tyer and am not sure where else to start! I just started fly fishing this year and absolutely fell in love with it with my first catch. Are women welcome at your meetings? Are there other women at your meetings? I have all of my own equipment and I am raring to go and I have tried tying a few flies from what I have gleaned from books from the library but I would really like to see a few flies being tied in person! There must be more than a few tricks to the trade that you just can't get from a book! I would appreciate it if someone could respond to this before the Wednesday meeting cause I sure would like to be there! Thanks soooo much!! Quote
Michael Dell Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Rena, Yes, there are other women in the club, and you are most welcome to come to the meetings. I will be demonstrating this Wednesday. I hope to see you there. Michael Quote

dave robinson Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) Rena: You have definitely come to the right place. NLFT&F is primarily a teaching club. Plus telling lies, tying flies and not just guys! We're a non-descrimanatory club. Proof of that is we let Ranger Bob join. Watch out for Rocky though, he's a real ladies man. Right Celina? And if you decide we're safe enough to go fishing with don't follow "Bobber" Guidos onto any flat rocks. Edited October 11, 2005 by dave robinson Quote
Scratch Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Indeed - welcome to the Club! While the club is predominantly composed of males (men would imply we've attained some maturity...) we welcome anyone interested in the sport of FlyFishing or the hobby/religion of Fly Tying to join in and become a member. The benefits are certainly greater than the costs! (Which are almost nothing!) We have a beginner's tying course coming up (November 5th?) and the cost of membership covers the cost of the course. You can consider it your yearly membership reward! /Greg/ Quote
rena Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 Wow! Sounds like this is the place I want to be! Unfortunately, I missed the October 12th meeting since it was my birthday and the hubby insisted I stay home and celebrate! Boy was that TV exciting! (Just Kidding) Anyway, I am determined to make it to the next one! I was at the fishing hole yesterday and my good friend Kevin gave me a really sweet deal on some tying stuff! A friend of his was leaving the country and had to sell his whole kit so he asked Kevin to sell it for him and what a deal I got! There were two boxes with the vise, some other tools, hooks (piles of em) wire, thread, stacker, wool, floss, every kind of fur imaginable and enough feathers of every imaginable color and type! I think that it is a collection that has probably taken the fella a lifetime to accumulate! So this afternoon I am going to attempt to tie a Wooley Bugger or a Montana! Wish me luck! Hope to see you at the next meeting next Wednesay! Quote
