dave robinson Posted December 6, 2005 Author Posted December 6, 2005 This week at Northern Lights we have Dave Murray (Wooly) as demonstrator. His instruction is to bring red and green materials. Seems he's going to tye some seasonally appropriate flies. I came across the attached cartoon today. Hey Scratch, does it remind you of a bull trout at Ltl Smoky? Maybe you just have to learn to reel them grayling in faster.
Paulf Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 ...so how did it go with tonights tie...did Dave razzle and dazzle you with the red and green tinsel...wish I could have made it out tonight...if anyone took pictures...be sure to post... ...received a get well card in the mail on behalf of the club members...a big thank you goes out to you all...this is more than just a club, its like family...when I start feeling up to it again, I'll pop in again... ...later...
RangerBob Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 be sure to post...Who me? It went really well actually Paul sorry you couldn't make it. Dave introduced us to a new material... new to me anyways. I think I'm in love with it already for a new Cardiff Special adaptation I have in mind. Aluminum dubbing... what will they think of next? In all colors of the rainbow you say... guess I know what I want for a stocking stuffer now. http://www.cabelas.com/information/FlyFish...ing0011397.html https://www.chifly.com/item.asp?prodID=686&...ab=SUB_CATEGORY
RangerBob Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Oh yeah, Dave also showed us how to tye up ear-rings for the wife for xmas. Yes.. be sure to debarb them indeed. Glen Baglo (of the Vancouver Sun) did this pair of "Rudolph's Regrets" back in 1995 as part of my first hosted fly swap FF@CXFS.I (Flyfish@Canadian.Christmas.Fly.Swap.I). First time they've been shown on the Internet. No.. Bev still won't wear them - and I only wear them personally on extra special occasions. I've been thinking of doing up a "studded nose ring" pair for Hep_Cat though this year.
RangerBob Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Oh yeah, a tip I mentioned also was that you can buy these fillable clear Christmas Ornament Balls.. and tye flies.. and have them suspended inside with 7x tippet. Think about it for next year eh. http://www.bjcraftsupplies.com/holiday/fil...ornaments01.asp 80 mm1105-97 each .99*If ordering 100 or more* 1105-97-100 each .88 UPDATE: See a related thread about this on Flyangler.ca as well here: http://flyangler.ca/forum/index.php?act=ST...st=0#entry11026
RangerBob Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Heh heh.. thanks for the inspiration Wooly. http://flyangler.ca/forum/index.php?showtopic=1538&hl=

rena Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Hey guys...just wanted to let you know that I won't be able to make it to the Christmas get together tomorrow night either. Just found out today that my puppy dog is an insulin dependent diabetic so my life is pretty crazy trying to draw blood to test and give needles ...the toughest thing I have had to do! At least people can tell you when it hurts but she can't tell me anything and it's heartbreaking! I hope you all have fun though and I would like to wish all of you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A GREAT NEW YEAR with many sunny days and lots of FISH CAUGHT!!! I will see you all in the New Year and I hope that my life will slow down so I can actually tie some flies dammit!!! So best wishes to all and have one for me will ya!

rena Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Sorry guys...won't be gettin there tonight...my dog was diagnosed with liver cancer last night andwe are just in the middle of the despair of having to put our dog to sleep and I don't think I would be very good company. Hope you have a good meeting and I will try to get to another meeting soon...she's been a good fishin buddy and we are going to miss her terribly Hope to see you all soon.
albertabowhunter Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Rena: Sorry to here about your dog. I dread the day I have to put my oldest down. It saddens me to hear of any dog getting that sick or old. Make sure you give him a real good meal and lots of love before you let him/her go...and stay with them until the end. I think its more comforting to them and you'd regret it if you didnt. Best Wishes, Richard

Best Wishes, Richard Kind words Richard. I'm sure Rena will appreciate them.... A lot of people - particularly those without canine companions can't understand how important they can be in our lives - it's obvious that you have had dogs for years and 'get-it'. My two are still young - but I know already that they are as much a part of my home as I am... Take care of your pup Rena. They understand things - probably as well as we do.
RangerBob Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 We missed yah Rena -- sorry to hear about your pooch. It was a good turnout -- and the flies Barry showed us tonight were outstanding. If you need the play by play -- we can tell you about it when you show up next time.
rena Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Thank you so much for all your kind words. We have decided to wait and see how she does over the weekend but I had to force feed her tonight although her blood sugar is good. She really is not herself at all and I have to give her painkillers 4 times a day. I think that we just need a few days to get our heads around this whole thing before we make the final decision. I can't imagine what it must be like for people with kids when they get sick...I am not sure I could take although I guess it's true that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Thanks again fellas and I will update when I can.
DennisS Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 This will be one of the patterns being tyed tonight. You will need rabbit zonker strip along with possibily cross cut rabbit strip(optional as zonder strip will also work) googly eyes and a clear rubber hair band and a size 4 short shank salmon fly or Saltwater hook. Last but not least Gorilla Glue(or Goop glue)
