Paulf Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Hey guys and gals, Are we still getting together to fish the river Wednesday? Will it be at the Strathcona Science Park again? I guess what I should ask first, is the river fishable, meaning water levels. Waiting for a reply. Paulf Quote
dave robinson Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Paul: I haven't been to the Strathcona site specifically, but in passing over the river the last few days, it looks like water levels are down, probably enough to give it a go. I may take a closer look tonight. I was contemplating meeting at the Strathcona Science Park at 7pm if it looks lilke the water is fishable. Quote
RangerBob Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Scratch took some pics of the 'Firehole' last Thursday. It might have come down a 'bit' since then.. but was still not wadable. I've heard reports of rising fish though. What is it?I'm guessing it's one of these, or else a worm. http://copperfly.net/stimulator.php Quote
albertabowhunter Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I thought it was a stimulator was definate though.... I've never tied one... maybe I'll tie a couple up tomorrow... later Quote
Scratch Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 You can see the pictures of the firehole at Flickr ( http://flickr.com/photos/scratch/sets/617694/ ) It is high still (only up a foot) but is still silty and chocolate. Problem being - with the scour and chocolate - who knows what we'll be wading into at the hole - it might be flats now... So... I'd almost suggest not bothering with the firehole yet, or almost anywhere on the NSR - at least for a few more weeks. We'll be heading into the low-water world by 2nd week august so.... Cheers. albertabowhunter Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 If you do go, bring a rain coat...looks like its gonna be a wet night.... Quote
SnoWolf Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 hola Wife was in hospital last week. I an my kids stopped and fished the NSR on the way to visit her at the mis. Boy caught what I am assuming is a moon eye.(tall and skinny fish, very white, big flat eyes) A fella fishing off the west side of whitemud creek caught 3 or 4 wally's. Another fella there said he caught a cpl of pike there as well. Sno Quote
Scratch Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Goldeye and mooneye are very similar - laterally compressed, large scales, silver body... The difference is that moons tend to be a tad smaller overall, and their eyes are gold on top half, black on the bottom. Goldeyes are solid gold all round. Quote
SnoWolf Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Thx Scratch in all the excitement i didn't really notice the general color of the eyes. I'll have to look at the pick an see if I can tell. Now where did that brat put the batteries for my camera(same ones fit his remote control car)? Sno Quote
