  1. Heh heh... I mentioned this fishing story in the past about a big nasty Pike I caught under the Capilano (StankHole) Bridge many years ago when I first moved up from Calgary. Well, today I found the pics to prove the tale. These were taken by Roy Boy.. whom has never fished the North Saskatchewan since. Indeed, the thing started to bleed when I pulled it out of the river... the baseball sized cancerous growths on it should tell you why it's not safe to eat the fish in the river. PS - I caught this sucker when I saw a Goldeye rise sideways. Now at the time I thought it was odd that Goldeye rise sideways. Nope, I clued in that it was a big Pike slamming a Goldeye. So I tossed in a Wolly Bugger and wham.. guess he took that for desert.
  2. Yeah, I can't wait to see the video he shot on this when he gets back from Salmon fishing in BC.
  3. This forum really shoulda been named "Conservation and Education".. in any event.. figured I'd post this tidbit here. PRESS RELEASE CENTRE ALBERTA * Fish For Free In Alberta On July 10 And 11 * Fire Ban Issued For Northwestern Alberta - with map * Reducing Commercial Fishing Will Net Benefits For Alberta's Fisheries * Surface Water And Groundwater Information Now Available Online Just be sure to read the regs. http://www.albertaoutdoorsmen.ca/fishingre...nces_costs.html
  4. How much did you pay to catch two fish? I can take you down to a few honeyholes on the Bow where you won't even have to get your feet wet to do that. Still, so with envy you got to fish with Barry. I can't wait to take my first float down the Bow... in my pontoon boat.
  5. Okay, my first time "FISHING" out at Muir today... it was FANTASTIC.. especially when these YAHOOS finally left the water about 3:30 PM (waited until they got off there). Someone also contacted Fish & Wildlife to investigate and they actually did show up to talk with them. I'm not sure of the outcome. I understand they were given permission to do this by Brian (not sure who he is) but was apparently on the Muir Lake Comittee. I also appreciate there are other users of the waterbody, but this one seems counter productive to what we're trying to accomplish out there. I snapped a few quick photos of the boat action to show.. no way I could actually photograph the boat cause it was going over 100 KM/H. Damn unsafe if you ask me with the amount of folks on the water, and also these guys hogged the entire dock area. I seen people portaging aluminum boat from a ways in. Also they entirely filled up the parking lot. I did a quick search on the Internet and found out when their other race times are (i.e. dates to avoid fishing). Is there something can be done about this? I swear if one of those remote control units was to have a faulty battery, and one of these high speed boats went out of control and hit someone, there'd be some serious damage done. Not to mention all the nasty fuels they're dumping into the lake. To give you an example (via video of how fast these boats are, and the noise generated by the boats and the crowds) visit this link: http://www.drcwebservices.com/eun/video.htm (The first one on the list is about all you'll need to see). =================================================== North American Model Boating Association http://www.namba16.com/ The race dates have been finalized for 2004: May 1& 2 Calgary May 15 & 16 Edmonton May 29 & 30 Calgary June 12 & 13 Edmonton June 26 & 27 Calgary Aug. 21 & 22 Edmonton Sept. 4 & 5 Edmonton Sept. 17 & 18 & 19 Crazy Al’s Race Kalispell Montana Sept. 25 & 26 Calgary Oct 2 & 3 Make up week end for any lost events either Calgary or Edmonton or both. The Edmonton club has the use of Muir Lake at Stony Plain again this year and Fons indicated they also have Kirk Lake that could be used as well for racing or practice. Perry mentioned the Municipality will be doing some up grades for us at the lake. =================================================== Practice.. sheesh I don't even wanna be there if they're out every weekend practicing! To think I volunteered some of my personal time to help build a fishery, not a raceway. Did any members from their club help out? Municipality to do some upgrades indeed -- how about putting some doors on the outhouses soon! Give your head a shake!
  6. If we hook the boats do we get to keep them if they're over 50cm? Thanks for the heads up, I'll be trying to cast for 'em with my new 10 lb. anchor. Naw scratch that, I'm just gonna anchor at the end of the dock.
  7. Fwding an email I got from TUC. I thought the inter-club BBQ deal was announced to be on May 16 (Sunday). Can someone confirm this for me? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trout Unlimited Canada Edmonton Chapter" <trout@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca> To: "Trout" <trout@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca> Sent: Monday, May 10, 2004 11:46 PM Subject: Muir Lake Grand Opening You are invited to the official grand opening of Muir Lake on Friday May 14 at 2 pm. There will be greetings from Hon. Stan Woloshyn, MLA Stony Plain and Parkland County Mayor, Elsie Kinsey. The Education Centre will be unveiled, and we will celebrate the first 4 inductees to the Walk of Fame honouring Albertans who have contributed to the Fisheries Resources. If you cannot come to the official opening on Friday there will be a less formal opening on Saturday at noon after which we will all go fishing. Muir Lake is a project of the Edmonton Trout Club, Trout Unlimited Canada Edmonton Chapter, Northern Lights Fly Tyers and Fishers, and Edmonton Old Timers Fishing Club operating under the umbrella of the Fisheries Enhancement Society of Alberta in partnership with Parkland County, Fisheries Management Division of Alberta Sustainable Resources, and the Alberta Conservation Association. http://www.ecn.ab.ca/edmtrout/muir.html Directions to Muir Lake from Edmonton. 8. There was something mentioned about the club getting together for a BBQ out at Muir on Sunday, May 16th. Is there any more info about this forthcoming?
  9. Taking the eldest Rangerette (K) out tonight to give her casting lessons and hopefully catch a fish. Should be there after 6:30 PM. Anyone else gonna be down there?
