  1. Put that paycheck to good use Steven! Call Barry and go for a float - it's a very enjoyable thing. (I hear Rick had a great day on the water - but the roads were less favourable... hope everything works out Rick...)
  2. PS - That knife on his belt doesn't look legal. Corruption must run deep with the Police down there for a mobster like him to walk around scaring the wildlife...
  3. Looks to be Vincenzo Shembri - fellow Jeeper, and scrawny italian. Could that be Vince Creek? Or perhaps Hrudy Creek?
  4. Just talked to our resident NLFT-Bow guru... Barry said the flows are ok - but the fishin is hot-hot-hot on the Bow - if you were gonna get down there - now is the time. Give him a ring and see what's happening. You can get him through his site - or PM me if you need his number. Maybe you can convince him to give up fishing and turn to ballroom dancing. Theres more money in being a gigolo - and when his tranny gives up later this week (the one in his truck - not on 17th picking up guys in the bar) it will be easier to get to the dance hall than Mackinnons. /g
  5. True Terry - and it's definitely a dun from the opacity... so the callabaetis is probably out.... hrm... size is small too.
  6. The first one is a male Callibaetis, the second looks to be ephemerella - but without sizes it's hard to be sure. Certainly isn't the same bug - since it would have had to change species and sex.
  7. Hawrelak Park by the university - or do you mean Hermitage Park off Victoria Trail north of the Yellowhead? Haven't been any fish in Hawrelak Park since the mid-80's. (Stocked from 1967 to about 1986) Haven't heard if anyone is going to Muir, Star, or any other local watering hole. This place has been super-quiet. We've been spending some time on the river lately - still murky and washed out, but the fish are there... just awfully hard work. Good sturgeon in there though...
  8. Carp are VERY common in stocked lakes that are not 'managed' fisheries. The carp often come from the fish farm where they are used to control the amount of 'uneaten' feed and algae. Remember - Summerside isn't a real lake. It's a clay pit, lined with rip-rap, put there as an added incentive to take on a monstrous mortgage. But on the whole - yes. The introduction of foreign species is a really serious problem. No less a problem than the number of fish introduced every time a tanker or freighter from Asia empties it's bilges - dumping hundreds of 'stowaways' into pacific and atlantic waters.
  9. Pull up, drop landing gear, walk to water, add rod, park car, go fish. 10 minutes with utility trailer for the toon.
  10. See todays news: Derailment leaks toxic chemical into Thompson http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...ory/Environment The Thompson river is the victim this time, and the various strains of salmon that use that river ecosystem of course. Please do your reading on this one... http://news.google.ca/nwshp?client=firefox...222&topic=n (This information gathered by Ranger Bob.)
  11. Certainly the heftiest fish I've had the pleasure of fighting. I've had longer (26") at Star lake (from shore no less) but this girl was a pig.
  12. That would be.... this one.
  13. Well... so much for the splashy announcement and media.
  14. Ha! You noticed! Indeed - we couldn't fit the over thirty candles required without creating a potential fire hazard - so I used Ben's. As for the cake - it was done by a friend (I can provide details if you wish) who does custom cakes. The entire thing was edible - save the "Club Sandwich" tied by Lance. She does amazing custom work - for much less than you'd get from a cake specialty place. This was about 70$. She did the cake for Ben's first birthday too - seen here:
  15. Thanks everyone - sorry I didn't say so sooner - this one slipped the radar (yikes!) I is older now. And not a lick wiser.

    Hello

Welcome to the forum. If you've got a free wednesday - you might want to pop by the club in the fall and see what all the hullaballoo is about.
  17. Join the Hook and Hackle club in Calgary for the first Inter-club "Fishout". July 25 to 27 on the Banks of the Bow River - Calgary Alberta Details to follow...
  18. Wednesday June 11th Gents - (and ladies)... Hope everyone has their 'swap' stuff in hand - or at least a vice to tie a few flies tonight. I'm bouncing between the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary and my office this week, so if I don't make it, please give Dan a pat on the back for me. Don't tell him why - just do it.
  19. Ok - so why hasn't anyone else even made a strange comment here?
  20. Sucks that if you're tenting you need to break camp so that you aren't 30 minutes from your stolen stuff. This is a really piss poor decision on behalf of the province, srd, and the county I think.

    Déja Vu

The Goto Five? Thought I had this figured out... lately? Not so much. 1. The Usual 2. Elk Hair Caddis 3. Evil Weevil 4. Hares ear nymph 5. Purple wooly bugger with crystal flash in the tail. (And to echo RB - add a #10 weighted damsel and a BB-Backswimmer to get to 7)
  22. I have fished Summerside (as a guest) several times now. Never was I disappointed in the fishing. The "private" lake issue only concerns me when the stocking is provided by fishing license and tax dollars. Places like Spring Lake where access is 'tough' or Eden used to be (but is now off the stocking list due to a lack of public access - or Hasse lake - where you are required to pay a fee to access the water that you've already helped pay to stock. Summerside is a private stocked pond - no different than the hundreds around Edmonton on private property that you don't know about. You just gotta suck it up and find a friend who lives there.
  23. [offtopic] Well - I wasn't #1 - but did haul 4 big bags of trash out of Henrietta Muir Edwards park. The group managed 59 bags total (these were the 36" x 50" uber bags - not kitchen catchers). We removed about 9 homeless camps (abandoned) over the 3 hours and easily 200+kg of waste. Amazing what 30 people can do when they all focus on one place. [/offtopic] Yes - the mapbook is amazing. Only need 1 more to fill my set out. /G

    Tippet

Yep - sounds right - assuming it's a bugger or leech you're fishing. You'll want a dozen more feet of tippet if you're fishing deep chironomids. The 3 feet of tippet is so that you aren't cutting 4" of your leader off every fly change. Tippet is cheap - leaders aren't.
  25. ??? Can't tell what the issue might be for you. I assume you mean the tab that says 'packages'... What browser are you using and what version (should tell you in the HELP -> ABOUT screen.)
