Just what we need another Pike and Perch Lake in Alberta..But thanks for the update.

Especially after the draw tomorrow during the Blues Jam session. I will post after that and then we are off to the races….haha...
-
i would agree a 3399 is common and a good size.
-
yes size 6 for the display. I would like them by the end of April. 60 days should be enough to tie 4 or 5 flies, don't you think. The list will be out Saturday evening.

Barry Wright (BJW) 7 rows with 6 flies (42) in each will have to be evenly divided all 42 flies by 9 so that would be 4 flies each and 6 extra that will be divided out to the first six people as they are drawn. Sounds good. Maybe Saturday we can do that. I need to find a list of flies from the Plate 1. Then we can start.

Hello all, I have registered a fly fishing competition team called Northern Boyz. Now that there are already according to the Bird family today 13 teams registered and now Northern Boyz would be 14 out of a potential 15 teams. All I need is a few more people to sign up with me and pay there 300.00 dollars. Any takers. Please pm me if you are interested in competing on the Bow River this September 23-27, 2013 in Calgary. http://www.flyfishin...page_id=members Rules please read: Under Competition tab.

Thanks all, but this isn't about the fishing it is about friends other than the wind, it was a pleasant day. Mind you being layered helped with good quality clothes. Still fished all day without gloves and the guides didn't ice up. So happy, happy, happy.

Water level is very low, even for this time of year. Still plenty of Ditimo around, so now I have to bleach my boots. 19:1 ratio of water and bleach with a 3 minute soak and a good rinse will get it. I also see ditimo has now reached the Bow River, and many other creeks and rivers in southern Alberta. Maybe I shouldn't bother doing a disinfecting soaking of my boots. Awe.... but I will anyway.. http://www.fishandfl...k/bfcc1203.html http://www.flycastin.../contest1p7.htm I am very happy to have spent the day on the river with Carl. I am also pleased that he is now living in Alberta for the moment. I didnt ask and he did offer to assist me in fine tuning my casting. But instead we just fished together. A missed opportunity, I dont think so. If there was something seriously wrong Carl would have said so.. . Only 3 Rainbow, and a Cutbow were caught on Tan #6 Clousers on the spey rod. Good work Carl.

I thought that is what I said. But I want at least one other person present when this draw is done.

If you slide your hand between the gill plate and the gills, without touching the gills. It wont hurt the gills of the fish. But just like any other fish if you lift them by the gill plate so the fish hangs vertically then you risk damaging the spline and heart. Always cradle the fish in a horizontal fashion supporting the forward section of the belly. No other way to do it safely for the fish...
-
All the names need to be put into a hat and drawn out and allotted a group of flies by the draw. Can this be done at the next meeting.
-
Cant make it, looks like I am gone north for some perch.
-
Depending on the day we would go, I will join as well. Saturday works best for myself.

Rabbit Strips are great stuff. There is a couple of us in the gang here that tie a Double Bunny style of pattern. Although one of the guys ties them in a host of colours from Olives , Browns, Orange, Pink, Purple, and Blacks. They are the best I have seen tied any where. Lance Chalmers is his name and he is a suberb flytier especially large patterns for Pike and Bullies. But at the end of the day when he goes fishing he always has a white pattern on as it will almost always produce. He plays with the other colours all day long and ends up with white at some point in the day. IWe always tease him to start out with white, never happens. Once we get up 6-10 fish one him he switches over, but not before that happens. The only exception to when his coloured Double Bunnies seem to be more effective is when we are in B.C. on the Kootney or the Sokumchuck especially during the Kokanee runs up the river. Then a Black and Red or a Black and Orage pattern will produce some real monsters.

I am also going next week weather permitting for some Bullies on a river south of the office. Looking forward to this trip and it will be the first of several to come in short order. Shack nasties....haha.
-
This trip is back in the planning stage for this year. It includes a rope this time and more pain killers that hopefully will never need to be used. I am getting excited to do this one. All healed up and time to tackle this one again.
-
It likely will come early as the dogs, cats, coyotes, lynx all started at least 3 weeks early this year in there breeding behaviour.

Did anyone get any photos of the flies that Chan and Haeffele tied. I wasn't there and I have been asked to tie Chan's Red and Black Chronie. Without a picture I don't know the material or percentage of Black and Red to use. SO I HAVE BEEN TYING A BLACK AND RED WIRE BUZZER INSTEAD fpr now. If you have pictures or a recipe please post them for those that didn't make the last day..

Atlantic Salmon Fly Pattern Called "the Mission"
Garhan replied to Garhan's topic in General Chatter
Yeah Backcounrty and there forum group pulled through on this for me. I was very appreciative to them on this. I sat down over the last couple of days and layed out the fly I think I would like to tie for the Royal Canadian Artillery. (RCA) Well at least the Salmon Fly is done in theory, now I need to draw out the Streamer and Wet fly to match. I also need to collect the material and likely dye the material to the Regiment colours. The primary colours are 50% Red and 50% Dark Blue and the two main colours. The sub colours are Gold and Grey. Not really sure about the Grey as I only seen it once mentioned on a Website for the RCA one time. I will have ask my son next time he calls. -
Lets practise on 4's and then drop to #6. Six makes a great display size as well. I can understand why 4 may look miss proportioned. I tied 4 and 6's on the weekend, easy ones like the Fontinalis. Looked peculiar in 4 but six was good.

Atlantic Salmon Fly Pattern Called "the Mission"
Garhan replied to Garhan's topic in General Chatter
Found it, a website in Nova Scotia got all over this and were extremely helpful. Thank goodness there are some local guys in NS that are up to speed on the local talent. i heard about this fly from a TU Red Deer member, to which they had the originator in to demo the pattern and tips of tying Atlantic style flies….cool. My quest begins. Red and Blue with a hint of gold and Smoke Grey for the Royal Canadian Artillery Unit.
