Terms of Use: Code of Conduct

Recommended Posts

Before reading the Code of Conduct, please note these methods for notifying the site administrators:

IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS WITH A SPECIFIC USER, OR POST:

At the top of EVERY article - there is a 'Report' button. By clicking this button - you will be able to send a message to the entire administration team. ALL moderators will be able to review your concerns, and act accordingly.

You may also use the "warning" level - if it is enabled for your account type. It will appear as a scale from red to green below the users avatar and user information. Again, this can be used (if available) to message your concern to a member, or moderator.

If you feel any of the following code has been broken by any individual or post, the moderators will do whatever is necessary to correct the situation. In many cases, the moderating team may remove the offending post, and notify the poster of the reason for removal. Our intent is not to stifle communication, humor, or the enjoyment of this forum for users, nor is it to ban members - rather to assist in self moderation to achieve a comfortable - all ages atmosphere.

Code of Conduct

================

Please treat all other community participants with respect and do not use NLFT.org forum features to threaten, harass, stalk, or abuse other users. The purpose of our communities is to exchange information and opinions on Fly-fishing and Fly Tying, and provide an open forum for users of all ages. Please avoid personal attacks, slurs, and profanity in your interactions.

The NLFT.org site administrators and moderators reserve the right to remove user-created content that advocate or encourage expressions of violence, bigotry, racism, hatred, obscenity, or profanity. NLFT.org may, at will and without notice, remove postings or ban participants that are deemed objectionable or that violate this code of conduct. All persons who violate this standard will be offered the opportunity to correct the situation prior to extensive action (ban). NLFT.org reserves the right to block access of forum features to anyone who has violated this code of conduct, and cannot be reached for correction or compromise.

All content is subject to administrative review upon our receipt of complaints from forum visitors and/or mailing list subscribers. We may also, at our discretion, modify or remove content without prior notice. Your participation in our forums, either registered or unregistered, grants to us all rights and privileges to modify or delete your content in accordance with the guidelines set forth here and in our privacy policy. Your participation also grants to us immunity from all litigation for comments made by others that are deemed to be damaging, misleading, or in any way defamatory.

Do not use NLFT.org forum features to spam others. Spam includes sending identical and irrelevant or unsolicited submissions to many different users, and includes misrepresenting the source of anything you post. Spamming and scrolling in forums or chat rooms are serious violations of online etiquette.

Do not use the NLFT.org forum features to sell or trade articles or services as a business entitiy. While users may wish to buy, sell and trade items through the "Trading Post", this area is for use by individuals only. Any 'business' wishing to offer product for sale should contact the Northern Lights Fly Tyers and Fishers executive, and request the right to sell merchandise through the web site.

NLFT.org does not allow behavior or content related to illegal activities. You cannot use NLFT.org forum features services to publish, post, distribute, or disseminate defamatory, infringing, obscene, or other unlawful material or discussion. This includes, but is not limited to, child pornography, bestiality, incest, illegal drugs, software piracy, and harassment. You may not use NLFT.org forum services for the purpose of linking to external sites that violate this code of conduct. Impersonating a member or administrator or another user is forbidden.

In addition to upholding this code of conduct, you are responsible for adhering to all local and national laws that pertain to your location.

We caution you against giving out any personally identifiable information (such as social security number, credit card number, name, address, telephone number, driver’s license number, password, etc.) online. This information can easily be used for illegal or harmful purposes.

Moderator Functions

===================

Moderators have the following responsibilities/functions:

Close Thread

Prevents further replies to a topic or thread. This is done if the thread is a duplicate, if there is nothing constructive to be said on the current subject, or if a thread has been moved to another forum. As an example, threads that are trolling for people to respond will most likely be closed.

Move Thread

Moves a thread to another forum more suitable for the current discussion. This may happen in the middle of a thread if the discussion has ventured off-topic.

Delete Thread

Done in the most extreme case, this function completely removes the thread or post from the message board.

General Guidelines for Moderating

Moderators have their own guidelines too, in addition to the rules above:

Closure or deletion of threads not agreed upon:

Rather than censoring a post that a moderator doesn’t agree with, we ask that they reply with their own constructive counter-argument/criticism.

Deletion of threads:

Moderators shall use close instead of deleting a thread. Threads or replies should only be deleted if it blatantly goes against the posting guidelines.

Post a notice when moving threads:

If a moderator feels that a thread belongs in another forum, the moderator must post a notice before it is moved as a courtesy to others.

Visit the discussion forums/message boards as frequently as possible

Moderators shall review all the new topics posted as frequently as possible in the discussion forums that they have been assigned to moderate.
