May 26-27, Dolberg Lake 4/0 Klave

Timmies Drive through... :)

Castle HepCat? My how the Muir Justice League has declined in size over the years eh Super Scratch?

Only one 'Fly Through' at Tim Hortons' Island -- pity. Perhaps you'll need to toss some more Timonite into the waters of Dolberg this year.

Hey Alan,

You can bring Club Beer to Dolberg too you know! Leave the Club Bears at home though eh. Hmmm... Dolberg IV for a name sounds kinda lame. I am starting to like the Dolberg WWF theme this year -- or else Dolberg EXTREEEEEME. Ohhh yeaaaaah!

Hey Lanny,

I think I still have those Club Beers from the clave at the Ram. I'll check with Janie to see if we still have them. I know she was thinking of using it for slug bait.

Cheers,

Alan

K, so here's one of the Grande Prairie team perhaps making contact with intent to attend. I am wondering if this is a "bring your wife and kids" bit, or .... ?

If they can walk - they are welcome. We can be a little loose in the language when it gets dark, and the bottles get light - but this is by no means an 'Adult only' event. The more the merrier!

Right. I'm afraid I misworded my question. Will there be other wives & children there ? It seems like you folks have a fairly good idea as to who's going - are we going to be exceeding the 12 sites this year, or have you in the past ? And I don't suppose there is some sort of playground equipment there as well ? I wouldn't ask but that I wasn't able to find too too much online about Dolberg.

Thx,

andy.

I don't know of any other children coming - and no - there is no 'park' at the site at all. It's very tailored to fishing, and RV/Trailer (no hookups though, and the outhouses leave a little to be desired...)

Doubtful, and INDEED they would not enjoy the messy poopers next to the fish bonking station... where Grizzly Bears and Wild Boars tread. Frankly, the rest of the accomodations are lousy and kids would not be easily entertained, unless they like to collect and cut firewood all day. I have camped in the muddy parking lot on occasion.... it was better then most campsites there. The fishing is only 'so so' (marginal at best) which makes it just bearable enough to come back grudgingly each year.

PS - The lake is full of leeches too, and I wouldn't swim in it on a bet.

Wow. How do you keep the throngs of fisherpeople away ? lol.

To the wives and children, I understand completely. The good news is that my children (I call them children because slaves are illegal...) are feral and live underneath the camper while out and about. They'll come out if you leave your creel a little too close to them, and I would especially suggest giving them their distance during their cleaning ritual. They're kind of ... territorial once they start looking for ticks.

I'll be looking to solo it, then. 1 x 24 or 2 ?

Edit : BTW, hit Swan this morning. 3 in the belly boat, 3 broke off (long range c & r). Some nice acrobatics, and the silver is showing on the rainbows. If that wind would die, I'd use the tube more often. Prob. going to take my boat out there on Friday.

If yer doing "wobbly-bobber-pop" two-fer math there... I'd say it'd have to be the higher number of the two-fer then myself. But, of course, really depends on how many days and nights, and what time the Train leaves Chicago and shape yer liver is in though eh? Factor in of course that playoff season came to an abrupt end in these parts, ergo sorrows need to be drowned.

I'll be hitting some water tonight... hope to have a fishy report as well. Spring has almost Sprung!

Recently Spotted: In the hands of didds

Current GOAL: He wants to visit as many new fishing holes as possible.

About this item: Rocky Started His Journey Last Year At Dolberg 3/0.

I named this Travel Bug in honour of one of our local vetran flyfishers of the NLFT&F named Rocky. He always has a smile and a story to tell you. Well, in fact he has many more stories to tell. May he travel far in search of trout, and crabs. He likes to get crabs.. erm.. trap crabs too.

If these 400k people were given maps to all of our favorite holes, rods to use and flies to fish them out with, the regulations' having been set too high would become a little clearer. That is, right now the vast majority of new fishermen and women stick to stocked lakes because they can catch fish there. They sling "nuclear-powered wobblers on transatlantic cable" and still catch fish. They usually bring their quads with them whilst fishing, all together too much alcohol ("buzz" being seemly and occasionally attractive, "pollution" being excessive), and four or five yappy dogs that rate around football-size. They bring their 40' 5th wheels outfitted, of course, with satellite dishes, hot tub and onboard casino. They usually drive pickups set high enough that one cannot see the drivers' faces without climbing up a 3' ladder.

When all identifiers of "Excessive Camper Syndrome" (ECS) are present in a majority of lake users in the province, we have a threshold approached and passed. I.e. when asking how many fish can a lake hold, we must also ask how many anglers can our lakes hold ? And, after having filled the lakes with campgrounds and campers every weekend, and having turned the latecomers away a few weeks in a row, how many anglers can our (native) rivers support ?

---

The key to saving a few lakes specifically for fly-fisherpeople would be to limit development. No dock, for starters. Next, no campground but a parking lot with a few firepits. Signs up like, " No Fish Here ! " and "Danger : Shark-Infested Water" would also help the deterrent. No paved roads in, no boat launch save for one at a 45 degree angle and impassable when wet. No toilets, no playgrounds. The key here ? ECS-ers always bring their wives.

Mod Note:

Interesting discussion with many points of view and idears. Keep 'em coming! Now, where did I put that "No wives allowed!" sign for Dolberg 4/0?

Hey Spanky, erm, I mean Scratch, we need some t-shirts made up for this event now. Ooo---tay! :)
