  1. Hi Peter, I gave the digital edition a quick run-through. It all looks great and is easy to read. I also like the links to additional information. You did some great work on this - thanks for taking the time to put it all together.
  2. Thanks for posting the links. I know that when seeing some of the mapping portals for the first time it can take a while to figure them out. Your presentation was a great run-through to get us all familiar with how they work and what they can do.
  3. Hi All, This past spring I launched a website where users can sign up to buy or sell custom hand tied flies. I did a short presentation on how the website works but my timing may not have been ideal as we were moving into trout fishing season and many people were more focused on fishing rather than tying. As we transition through fall, I suspect most of us will resume tying flies for the next season. If you have any interest in selling some of your flies to make a little extra cash on the side, or if you are looking to buy some custom tied flies that are not available at your local fly shop, have a look at troutfodder.com. It will take a while to build up a following and word of mouth will certainly help - the more people who sign up and post flies for sale, the stronger the site will be.
  4. I found the advertisement on page 6 a little disturbing. Nothing should ever be inserted under the gill covers if you intend to release the fish - although I know it is common practice on many sport fishing shows.
  5. Great photos Dan. Shows the process of whats going on when a pupa reaches the surface. Caddis emergers with a trailing shuck of Antron can be effective when trout are feeding on the surface - image DSCN0660 shows why. Thanks for sharing. Rob
  6. While doing more research on this I see that Michael Short has already covered they story a couple of times: http://letsgooutdoors.ca/blogs/item/227-pavement-over-fish Michael is certainly more on top of things and more connected than I'll ever be so we'll leave this for the experts. Rob
  7. Would there be any interest in doing a short documentary film on the efforts to halt this proposal? Interviews with people involved, interviews with people who fish there regularly, a visual tour of the headwaters springs as they exist now, etc. If there is enough interest I can do the filming and editing. Let me know. Cheers, Rob
  8. Ah...the joys of retirement. Sadly I have to work. Things are looking busy for me for the next few weeks but I plan to head out to the N. Ram with Debbie on July 20 to 23, and again on my own on the July 28 weekend. Perhaps we can plan for a rendezvous then. Good luck. Rob
  9. Hello Everyone, I have decided to finally move forward with one of my fly fishing film ideas. The film concept will be an exploration of how different generations approach fly fishing, their relationship with the sport, and how it influences their lives. It will be a short film destined for one of the fly fishing film festivals (assuming its good enough). Of course I will need to film/interview several people from different age groups to pull it off. That’s where you come in. I am looking for a few people who are passionate about fly fishing ranging in age from early teens to mid 40’s (I already have a couple of older people confirmed for the project). This could be individuals, couples, or father/mother & son/daughter combinations. You don’t need to be an awesome fly angler – just someone who loves the sport. Filming will take place in September. I have specifically set aside the 22nd to the 25th for a trip to the North Ram River where hopefully everyone involved will camp together (using a mostly every person for themselves approach). The whole thing will be very low-key - just a group of friends out for a relaxing fly fishing weekend. We would likely split up into smaller groups and rotate partners over the weekend. Everyone just heads out for a day of fishing like they normally would. I would film most of the action and do a few interviews on the river and/or back in camp. Then all of the footage gets woven together around the narrative. A good example of the general mood and feel I hope to convey in the film can be seen in the fly fishing film A Deliberate Life (). Not everyone needs to be there for that entire weekend. And if someone can’t make it for that weekend at all I may be able to squeeze in additional filming on the weekend of the 17th & 18th at the North Ram, or possibly (last resort) October 1st & 2nd at a different location. In the end I would like to keep the group small (4-6 people). Keep in mind that while I do have some experience, I am far from a professional film maker. The whole project is being done just for the fun of it. There are no sponsors. There is no budget. There is no cool swag for the cast. And everyone will need to cover their own camping expenses. If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested in participating, e-mail me at troutfodder@gmail.com Cheers, Rob Hinchliffe

  11. The Blackstone is a beautiful place to fish, and certainly less crowded at times, but the average size is smaller than on the North Ram. If you are after some bigger fish I would do the North Ram. Even when crowded you can find some fish that have not been hounded - just need to do some hiking or work areas that don't see as many anglers.
  12. Here is the link to the Fish and Wildlife Mapping tool that I talked about in my presentation: https://maps.srd.alberta.ca/FWIMT_Pub/?TermsOfUseRequired=true&Viewer=FWIMT_Pub I was on it a few days ago and it seemed to be malfunctioning - but it could have just been the outdated web browser I was using at the time. Cheers, Rob
  13. If you’ve ever been seduced by the spirit of adventure, or drawn deeper into the wilderness by questions about what’s around the next bend, or what’s the fishing like at that lake that nobody seems to know anything about, then this presentation is for you. Resolute lake is a tiny, remote mountain lake with many secrets – secrets that, a couple of years ago, I set out to discover. This presentation will take about 45 minutes – so there should still be some time afterwards to tie a few flies for those who are so inclined. Cheers, Rob
  14. Hi everyone, In addition to the Don Andersen video, I have added my latest film (Resolute) to my YouTube channel. Just Google "Troutfodder on YouTube" and you should be able to find it. There's a couple of cheesy bug videos there as well. I felt that Resolute was not quite up to par for a fly fishing film festival entry, but I am getting better. I have a few ideas for this summer and plan to produce one film in particular that will be destined for the film festivals (IF4 or FT3) - but I will need a few people who are willing to be on camera. I hope to get out to another meeting in the next couple of weeks to discuss...
